JOB Summary

Responsible for the administration, management and disposition of disability claims under the Marriott International, Inc. Hourly Short Term Disability Plan. Work is in a fast-paced multi-tasked environment with a high volume of revolving claims and phone inquiries. Generally completes tasks under direction of the Short Term Disability Unit Manager.

Follows all company policies and procedures, including but is not limited to safety and security. Maintains confidential claim information, proprietary information and protects company assets. Communicates with others using clear and professional language. Prepare and review written documents accurately and completely. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others, supports team goals, vision and objectives. Listens and responds appropriately to questions, concerns or issues from our claimants and all other outside contacts.



Essential Functions
  • General claims administration according to Plan provisions and monitors compliance through continual, consistent follow-up
  • Able to manage a caseload up to 150 disability claims on a continuous basis
  • Determines eligibility of disability plan participants to receive disability benefits
  • Investigates and analyzes claim information through telephone and/or written inquiry to medical providers, attorneys, insurance companies, etc.
  • Utilizes available resources for determination of diagnosis classification and expected recovery times
  • Disburses accurate, timely disability benefit payments on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Communicates as needed with the division benefits office, unit, and associate through use of original correspondence, generic letters, phone calls, email messages, etc.
  • Responds in a timely manner to a high volume of phone calls and requests, using discretionary judgment in dealing with telephone inquiries
  • Manages multiple priorities in an organized and efficient manner
  • Assists with departmental and inter-departmental projects related to process improvement, customer service requests, and/or plan design modifications
  • Able to manage, handle and/or carry-out miscellaneous duties or assigned tasks.

  • Strong computer skills and general systems knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Marriott International benefit plans.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Flexibility - must be able to handle multiple tasks despite ongoing interruptions.
  • Proficiency with figures and adding machine for computation of benefits.
  • Maintenance of thorough, accurate, legible records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and also collectively within a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain efficient claim process with weekly deadlines.
  • Efficiently utilizes available resources to produce a high-quality work product on a consistent basis.
  • Will need to become well versed with MARRPAY, the disability online check writing system (iVOS), MS Word, Outlook and all other applicable system applications.
Education and Experience
  • Two or four year degree from an accredited university/college/business/technical school preferred or equivalent related experience.
