Time Warner Cable currently seeks a Commercial Broadband Tech 4 for our Business Services Technical Operations Department in Brooklyn, NY.
Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to install, upgrade, service and disconnect all offered TWC services to commercial subscriber locations in accordance with TWC guidelines and to the customer ' s satisfaction.
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs Installs, Service Calls, Disconnects, Move ' s, Adds and Changes of Business Class Services.
- Install/Service drop cable from pole (aerial) or pedestal (underground) and interior outlets to commercial subscriber locations and activates Video, HSD and BCP services following TWC installation procedures.
- Install/Service with coaxial, data and twisted pair phone cables integrating video, data, telephone service into new and existing commercial wiring.
- Installs & troubleshoots analog and digital channel converters, cable modems, wireless gateways, multi-media terminal adapters (telephone service) and properly connects to TVs, computers, surround sound systems, DVD players, VCRs, telephones etc. per TWC procedures.
- Utilizes various test equipment to troubleshoot and repair problems.
- Utilizes cellular and email communication to effectively communicate with supervisor, customers and OSC as well as utilize a wireless/paperless work force management device.
- Performs products demonstrations and up-sells services at the time of installation.
- Performs system audits to verify unauthorized service connections.
- Maintains appropriate drop plant to conform to FCC mandate, CLI and system performance specifications.
- Enters material requisitions and coordinates with warehouse for equipment requisition.
- Attends weekly safety and training meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements :( Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
- Must be a Tech 4 to apply.
- Applicants with a basic understanding of RF, Telephone, cabling, data and fiber are a plus.
- Must have a mechanical aptitude with working knowledge in using various tools and equipment.
- Must also have map reading skills, basic math and reasoning skills as well as the ability to communicate via email, and telephone.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity with consumer home electronics such as TVs, HDTVs, VCRs, DVDs and surround sound systems.
- Basic computer user skills such as internet/browser navigation and email usage.
- Must have solid customer service skills, and a professional work appearance.
- Ability to climb utility poles required.
- Valid State driver ' s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Technical Ability, Team player with the ability to also work independently, Problem-Solving skills, Customer-Service Oriented, Excellent Communication skills a must.
Education & Experience:
Associate ' s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in CATV, telecommunications or electronics preferred. NCTI, SCTE or equivalent certifications preferred.
- Knowledge of installing and troubleshooting computer hardware, software, and peripherals preferred.
Other position considerations:
- Has extensive contact with technical and office personnel, customers and general public.
- Lifting and carrying up to 65 pounds, digging, crawling, stooping and standing.
- Climbing on ladders, telephone poles and/or towers.
- Works outside throughout the year in a variety of weather conditions, which may be extremely hot or extremely cold.
.May drive for long periods of time.

The ladders, buckets and other climbing equipment necessary to perform the work of a field technician are rated for maximum weight capacities which includes the weight of the technician plus any tools the technician is carrying. Exceeding the weight of such ladders, buckets or other climbing equipment poses a serious risk to the safety of technicians and the public, and may violate state and/or federal limits for such equipment. The maximum body weight of a field technician for use of the majority of such equipment is 325 pounds.
Materials and Equipment used:
Various hand tools, test equipment, company truck/van, workforce management device (i.e. C-Cor or Tough Book), cellular phone, analog and digital converters, modems, gateways/routers, and a variety of other equipment associated with the installation and servicing of TWC customers.
Travel requirements and frequency:
Overnight travel may be required.
This position is part of a bargaining unit.
Legal or Financial Responsibilities:
.Work order, money/checks collected, converters, modems, tools, test equipment, vehicle and all other TWC issued equipment.
.Requires adherence to Time Warner Standards of Business Conduct.
.Position must assist in maintaining the confidentiality of customer and business data at all times.
