Position Summary:

Assists in meeting the psychosocial needs of the emergency room patients, by providing emotional support, counseling, crisis intervention and discharge planning services to patients/families.

Knowledge & Skills:

A thorough working knowledge of social services in a direct services health care setting is needed, including crisis intervention, support counseling and discharge planning. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in face-to-face personal contact with patients and their families. Must have working knowledge of community information and resources for referrals. Ability to learn computer entry and retrieval skills. Discretion in handling highly confidential information from patients and medical records, and the ability to work with highly diverse populations.

Education:

Required: Master's of Social Work

Experience:

Required: 3 years Acute hospital Experience

Preferred: Two years previous medical social work experience; 3 years Case Management experience

Credentials:

Required: LMSW license
