POSITION GOAL
The job description for the RN on the IMCU provides criteria for evaluation of the RN. The RN assigned to the Intermediate Medical Care Unit cares for patients in the age ranges as listed: adult and geriatric.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:
Competently and accurately completes age appropriate comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessment of patients; takes nursing history assessment. Utilizes as basis to identify nursing diagnosis/patient care needs.
Safely and properly delivers age and specialty appropriate nursing care to assigned patients.
Evaluates the patient/family response to, and outcome(s) of, implemented care and modifies the plan of care accordingly.
Competently and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation on all patient, unit, and Hospital records.
Supports/participates in unit-based continuous quality improvement activities including evaluative mechanisms. Utilizes research-based nursing interventions. Will participate in peer review.
Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member. Assumes the responsibility of charging unit, as appropriate.
Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients.
Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice for Intermediate Medical Care Unit and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment
Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care
Serves as positive role model/motivator. Inspires optimism. Creates a respectful and appreciative unit climate/practices positive recognition and feedback.
Responds to Code Blue and implements life-saving measures, per ACLS protocol.
Interprets EKG rhythm strips, on all telemetry patients
Monitors special drugs (i.e., Dopamine, Lidocaine, Dobutrex, and Cardizem) and other cardiac drugs, as per protocol.
Assists physician with procedures, as needed (i.e., thoracentesis, chest tube insertion, and venous access devices).
Responsible for assessment of patient with telemetry monitoring and/or continuous pulse oximetry
High level of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, social skills.
Makes assignments according to patient needs and staff knowledge ability, need, and interest.
Responsible for ensuring core measure patients are identified and protocols followed
Develops/mentors others. Builds trust and autonomy.
Understands and interprets unit's role in big picture.
Identifies human, material, and resources/needs.
Responsible for scanning patient armbands and administering medications via E-MAR
Assures compliance with safety regulations.
Performs related duties as required/assigned.
Scanning supplies from P.O.U. area
Adheres to and complies with HCA Code of Conduct as part of the Ethics and Compliance Program and attends annual training sessions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
One (1) year prior clinical experience with above average performance evaluation.
Graduate of accredited school of nursing. B.S. Nursing preferred.
Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners
Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
ACLS certification within six months of employment.
NIHSS certification within 6 months of hire, unless currently certified then needs to be maintained.
