We have a full-time/part-time opening for a Operations Engineer.

Must be able to work various shifts per week.

Requirements

Experis is working with a client who is looking for an Operations Engineer. This is a permanent role (will also consider contract to hire) located in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will have a systems engineering background with configuration management (Puppet, Chef), as well as someone who can develop in either Ruby, Python or Java. I have enclosed the position description below for additional information.

Operations Engineer

As a successful Senior Operations Engineer you will design, POC, build and enhance the tooling and processes needed to automate hardware and software infrastructure. The automation will cover provisioning, deployment, orchestration, and operations across multiple data centers and cloud providers. You will develop enterprise patterns, prove out solutions, evangelize adoption, drive implementation, and increase operational efficiency through automation. You will understand business needs to speed up releases while increasing availability. You will work across organizations to standardize our automation strategy.

What you will do:

  • Brings prior experience to organize and define work for complex or ambiguous situations
  • Provides consultation, training, and knowledge sharing to associates
  • Actively contributes to domain body of knowledge
  • Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for product or domain/technology
  • Must provide thought leadership and demonstrate it on a regular basis
  • Works across organizational boundaries to deliver a quality product to our partners
  • Establish and shepherd application/domain-specific architecture
  • Can architect complex systems and break up into logical components
  • Understands the financial implications of the decisions being made from a technology perspective
  • Establish application/engineering patterns
  • Assess emerging technologies and make recommendations based on financial feasibility
  • Create education and training materials that may be used in formal training
  • Possess a sound understanding of functional and business objectives that drive and shape technology requirements and design deliverables.
  • Closely partner with other architects and groups (including information security) to ensure solutions fit holistic enterprise standards

What you will need:

  • 5-8+ years experience in IT/Engineering
  • 5+ years experience working in an enterprise enviornment
  • 3+ years experience working with configuration management (Chef, Puppet)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar field
  • Automation expertise
  • Multi-datacenter deployment experience
  • Virtualization experience (VMware, Openstack, Xen)
  • Cloud (AWS, Rackspace, etc) experience
  • Service oriented operations experience
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills

What will set you apart:

  • Development experience with Ruby, Python, Perl, Java, or other language
  • Cisco UCS platform automation, configuration, and tuning a plus
  • vCloud Director experience
  • Experience working with large distributed systems
  • Experience automating large data stores (Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.)

Additional Information

  • This position does not have direct reports but may mentor less experienced associates in the role
