We currently have an opening for a Laborer at our power plant in Westville, New Jersey.

Job Summary

Performs minor repairs to equipment. Maintains records, receipts. Completes inspections as needed. Performs cleaning functions and operates and maintains mobile equipment. Duties may include sweeping, shoveling, painting, housekeeping, and some minor repairs of equipment. Completes inspections as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

- Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Supervisor immediately. Reads, understands, and applies information such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

- Familiar with and experienced with plant systems and processes.

- Applies mechanical knowledge and skills sufficient to perform routine tasks such as opening vessels and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, overhead protection and staging, operating power tools and performing minor repairs to plant equipment and structures.

- Uses effective communication and interpersonal skills including successful cooperation with all departments. Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using intercom system, two-way radio or face-to-face.

- Must be able to perform the following duties:

-Open vessels and equipment access doors

-Placing and removing furnace access equipment

-Placing and removing overhead protection and staging equipment

-Performs minor repairs to plant and mobile equipment, and on hydraulic hoses and lights.

Maintains records, receipts, etc. and completes inspections as necessary.

- Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.

- Perform job duties within prescribed standards with minimal supervision.

- Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.

- Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ensures that trucks are properly positioned on scales for accurate weights.

- Instruct the truck drivers on the proper unloading and sampling procedures. They also instruct the drivers where and how to properly dump loads to avoid plugging up the system.

- Visually inspect incoming material and perform quality control tests to maintain acceptable material standards.

- Loading and unloading the samples in the wood drying oven and maintaining accuracy in the moisture content tests.

- Check the information on the driver's paperwork to the information printed on the weight certificate to be certain that the information for all loads is accurate.

- Sort and collate the tickets for each days receipts before they are turned in to the office.

- Complete the Daily Weighmaster Report to be turned in with the tickets and oven information each day.

- Communicate with log yard and operations personnel to co-ordinate load destination and handling

- Operates the scale house computer equipment safely and effectively to close out the day's transactions as scheduled; maintains equipment, reload systems.

- Weighs in and records all oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, lime, metal, and other deliveries and shipments.

- Assists in maintaining plant site security and access as directed.

- Maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times

- Secures scale building, plant access and all equipment at the end of the day.

- Performs and assists in clerical and other duties as directed.

- Follow specific guidelines concerning plant emergency procedures.

- Works overtime and rotating shifts as may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory duties.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

Must have at least 6 months of experience working in an industrial setting, construction, farming or serving in a branch of the armed forces in a capacity of operating equipment or utilizing industrial tools or equipment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies
