As an IT professional you have expert knowledge in one or more programming languages or databases. Because of your excellent understanding of the entire project life cycle, you have the ability to direct project teams in the gathering, design, and development of complex applications/programs. You get to work closely with and learn from the brightest minds to ensure proper system design. Your role ensures highest quality implementations from design through quality insurance to production. You anticipate hardware and software design needs to take pre-emptive action. Our IT professionals support multiple team members and other project leads in day-to-day activities related to project work.

The Operations Windows Lead System Specialist role will work with a team of engineers to support all production and non-production servers across the Home Depot enterprise. Desired proficiencies and responsibilities include: Windows OS (2012) troubleshooting and diagnostics (perfmon/xperf), VMWARE, troubleshooting IIS, troubleshooting path management for storage (examples: HBA's, power path and san surfer), PowerShell scripting, automation development, Windows clustering, ability to leverage monitoring tools (SCOM and SCCM), ability to work with virtual and physical servers and the ability to remediate backup clients - all of which will be used to maintain system health. Role requires effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex concepts in an understandable and concise manner, comfortable interacting at all levels (peer to leadership), strong leadership skills to drive execution, ability to organize and document information, a self-starter / motivated to identify and drive improvements without being prompted. As a lead, the candidate will be expected to mentor junior associates to help grow fellow team members.
Monitor, maintain, and support end-user hardware and software applications. This may include evaluating new systems during the pre-implementation phases, supporting the customers, resolving user problems, and training the end-users and teammates.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -
  • Assesses financial effect of wiring, staging and installation costs, new equipment purchases, and project changes.
  • Ensures proper asset management for all items being installed and uninstalled.
  • Oversees the computer maintenance expense line on store profit and loss statements to ensure that expenses are charged appropriately in accordance with GAAP and Home Depot policies.
  • Reviews monthly profit and loss statements for IS department and analyzes expenditures vis-a-vis their budget.
  • Conducts post project reviews to determine financial and operational success.
  • Selects, develops, and motivates assigned staff.

    NATURE AND SCOPE -
  • Typically reports to an IS Controller.
  • Direct reports typically include one or more Senior Systems Specialists, Systems Specialists and Associate System Specialists.
  • Typically requires interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive or controversial situations.
  • Typically procedures for analyzing situations and making conclusions are very diverse.

    ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
• A bachelor' s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering or related field.
• Five to eight years of Windows server administration experience.
Technical Skills:
• Highly proficient in Windows OS, especially 2012
• Highly proficient in Windows OS troubleshooting
• Highly proficient in PowerShell scripting
• Highly proficient in Windows clustering - a solid understanding of Always On clusters
• Proficient understanding of SCCM and SCOM - beneficial to have knowledge of other monitoring tools. Solid understanding of using perfmon/xperf and deciphering the data generated..
