What You’ll Do
The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff, and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule. In this position you will assist the heat treat department by:
Processing furnace samples to verify process quality
Distributing test pieces to the factory floor that will be placed in heat treat trays
Collecting, sectioning, polishing and performing metallurgical analyses on test pieces
Determining if test pieces are within or out of specification and contacting the manufacturing engineer and/or hold the suspect material
Filling out forms for metallurgical analysis requests, submitting daily part audits, reviewing furnace process data to identify root cause of quality issues, data entry and database updates
Small project work for the manufacturing engineering staff
This position will require daily afternoon/evening work and some weekend work
What It Takes
We need excellent communicators, who thrive on solving problems and working in a team environment. Ideally, you will be pursuing a degree in Technology Management or Industrial Technology; others may qualify. In addition, we require:
Must be registered as a full-time student at a Waterloo area university
Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
Grad date – May 2017 or later
Cumulative GPA of 2.8 and above
16 - 20 hours/week during the academic year
35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
A strong candidate will also have:
Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes
Ability to work with hand tools, polishing equipment and some laboratory equipment
Basic knowledge of spreadsheet applications and database applications
Basic knowledge of heat treatment of ferrous metals, knowledge of material properties and metallurgical analysis and basic understanding of statistical process control
