Locksmith

Position is contingent upon award of the project

Essential Responsibilities:

Installs, repairs, rebuilds, and services mechanical, electrical, and electronic locking devices under the direction and supervision of the Utilities Manager.

Disassembles locks such as padlocks, safe locks and door locks, and repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.

Inserts new or repaired tumblers into lock to change combinations.

Cuts new or duplicate keys.

Keeps records of locks and keys.

Completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation to include basic structural framework.

Repairs door screens; replaces or repairs window locks and operators.

Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Works inside and outside in various weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat.

Work around non-hazardous materials/waste lifting, stooping, crawling, bending, and carrying.

Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.

Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills.

Minimum Requirements:

A minimum of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED) coupled with 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the locksmith field.

Must maintain a valid state driver license.

Must maintain a Master Locksmith state license.

Prior knowledge of high security locks and locking devices.

Currently holds or ability to successfully obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
