We currently have an opening for an Assistant Utility Operator in our Bridgeport, CT power plant. This operations position is designed to prepare the employee for positions of increased responsibility throughout the plant.

Summary:

Monitors and operates the ash handling system in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. Performs maintenance and minor repairs to ash handling and other assigned auxiliary systems.

Recognizes and mitigates operating difficulties and adapt to changing plant conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency, and minimizing down time. Operates plant equipment and systems with assistance and guidance from PO to ensure proper functioning.

Makes rounds and checks conditions of designated plant equipment, records operational data on log sheets. Completes assigned inspections.

Shovels loose materials such as sand, gravel, metals, plastics, or chemicals into machine hoppers or into vehicles and containers such as wheelbarrows, scrap truck, or barrels.

Assists the Plant Operator in the daily operation and maintenance of the plant from the field.

Maintains the work area in clean, neat, and orderly condition at all times.

May be required to relieve the Equipment Operator as needed.

Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.

Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understand, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Works overtime.

Works rotating shifts.

Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.

Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.

Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or coursework preferred.

Maritime, Navy or other military experience preferred.

Mechanical skills sufficient to operate various power plant equipment and conduct equipment inspections.

Knowledge and skills to operate power plant auxiliary equipment.
