This marketing role resides in the Specialty Networks Product Marketing team within Optum's broader matrix marketing organization and reports directly to the Vice President of Specialty Networks Marketing. Optum Specialty Networks represents a $3 billion business and is comprised of industry-leading behavioral health, complex medical conditions, and chiropractic and other physical therapy product solutions. Optum Specialty Networks serves 1 in 5 Americans in the Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid markets.

This leadership position works directly with Specialty Networks (SN) business leaders to develop and execute product marketing plans that directly support the SN business growth agenda. These plans are created through a coordinated and collaborative process with SN's General Managers, Product Management heads, and New Business Development leaders. The tactical execution of these plans is managed through a group of centrally organized multi-disciplinary shared marketing resource teams.

A critical and fundamental part of this role is to be a collaborative partner with the designated market-centric Optum Segment Marketing team liaisons, to ensure SN marketing initiatives are appropriately incorporated into Optum go-to-market sales, client support and consumer communications campaigns. 

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Supporting Specialty Networks strategic business initiatives

    • Planning process: Drives the annual and quarterly product marketing planning process for the respective products assigned to this role. This includes anticipating and planning around new/remediated products and clinical capability releases, while coordinating with Segment Marketing counterparts to ensure these SN initiatives are appropriately visible and supported in the broader Optum segment market plans throughout the year

    • Clinical innovation: Provides strategic and tactical support on how to package, position and promote innovative clinical capabilities that differentiate Optum SN core products from Optum's competitors in all markets. This includes the creation of white papers, opinion leader articles, case studies, and collateral that supplement Solution Sales materials with added program detail

    • Pilots and Partnerships: Works with Product Marketing and Account Management to provide tactical support in securing client participation, ensure positive consumer experience, and ultimately leverage the positive outcomes and client testimonials

    • New Market Creation: Supports the New Market Development team in launching revenue-generating programs (e.g., new Telepsychiatry business) by creating comprehensive rollout and lead generation strategies necessary to grow a new business. This includes coordinating market intelligence, creating go-to-market messaging and sales tools, managing lead generation and conference activities

  • Shaping and evolving Specialty Networks value narratives

    • Drives the creation and content management of SN value narratives to ensure new proof-of-value examples and clinical enhancements are kept current. This involves routinely working with SN medical economics and clinical management teams to establish fresh ROI and clinical impact case studies

    • Routinely shares updates with the Segment Marketing and Solutions Sales teams, and coordinates training updates when necessary

  • Sales enablement

    • Product rollout: Is responsible for guiding Product Development in developing and then telling a story to both internal and external audiences about a product that will help drive awareness and demand for it. This work includes creating a product marketing strategy and plan, coordinates a variety of marketing execution resources (e.g. sales playbook, collateral, training support) and collaborating with Segment Marketing and Solution Sales to ensure that inside/direct/indirect sales resources have the knowledge and tools required to successfully engage customers in the market

    • Thought leadership: Partners with Corporate Communications and Segment Marketing to facilitate product-specific success stories, white papers, opinion leader articles, and related speaking opportunities that highlight SN solutions to critical challenges facing Optum customers

    • Maintaining fresh sales collateral resources: Oversees the creation and maintenance of all core content for product specific communications (print, web, video), by routinely coordinating with SN Product, Compliance and Legal to ensure these communications are accurate and up-to-date with recent proof-of-value examples, with the newest versions of materials being accessible to the Front Office though Optum's online Knowledge Information Center

    • Account-based marketing support: Partners with the Front Office and SN General Managers in focusing on high-valued client-specific upsell opportunities by aligning our value story to meet the needs of client specific challenges, and to differentiate our services from incumbent competitors

  • Support customer intimacy, satisfaction, and retention

    • Client advisory councils: Plays a leading role working with SN CEO and General Managers in developing agenda topics and executive-level presentations showcasing SN innovations

    • Contract renewals: Collaborates with Account Managers and General Managers on securing high-profile client contract renewals by ensuring our finalist presentations are effectively positioning the value Optum delivers

    • Point of services updates: Coordinates with product management, operations and account management to shape client-facing communications regarding operational/service changes and anticipated regulatory impacts

    • Member engagement: Oversees the strategic evaluation, planning and introduction of new member engagement tools, website and smartphone applications designed to promote the use of SN programs to client member populations

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Strong messaging and narrative development skills, with the ability to lead senior-level stakeholders in creating value themes and stories that positions SN products and capabilities in a compelling way that differentiates Optum from competitors and resonates with customers in the market

  • Leadership and collaboration skills are essential to maintaining strategic alignment, and advancing projects with multiple cross-functional and cross-market work groups

  • Highly-organized and disciplined project management and leadership skills to balance multiple projects with varying priority, as well as ensure project stakeholder accountability, collaboration and timely completion of work

  • Excellent written and verbal skills; writing samples maybe requested

  • The ability to operate as an investigative reporter within SN clinical operations to identify and translate the value of complex clinical management concepts into well-positioned narratives (PowerPoint decks, whitepapers, collateral, customer and member communications) that resonate with customers by addressing key challenges

  • 8+ year's strategic product marketing experience

  • 5+ years team leadership experience, working with senior-level business leaders or  managing teams

  • Strong understanding of business-to-business sales and marketing dynamics, and the buying process for state and commercial Employers

  • 5+ year's health care industry experience,

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Healthcare nsurance and managed care experience with a national carrier; experience in the behavioral health market
