Pay Rate: $16.04 - $19.65

Job Summary: This is the lead position supporting the ongoing Landscape maintenance requirements for the Naropa University campuses. This position directs the efforts of the Landscape team, including daily workflow requirements and personnel supervision. Specific duties include daily turf management, trash pick-up, sweeping, using a leaf blower, mowing, line trimming, garden clean-up, pruning, snow removal, weeding, watering, planting, shoveling, raking, and daily open-up and lock-down procedures. Assist with building maintenance work as needed. As an essential employee, this position will be required to report to work even when normal operations have ceased, including holidays, inclement weather closures, and other crises.
Job Duties:
Landscape Responsibilities:
* Oversee landscape crew including temporary and workstudy employees.
* Daily trash pick-up, sweeping, using a leaf blower, mowing, line trimming, garden clean-up, pruning, snow removal, weeding, watering, planting, shoveling and raking.
* Turf management.
* Perform daily open-up and lock-down procedures.
* Incorporate energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability concepts into maintenance work.
* Complete assigned departmental work requests.
* Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventory.
* Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
* Install fences, benches, patios, retaining walls, and hardscape.
* Operate power equipment.
* Work on Snow Crew shoveling snow as needed.
* Perform classroom and special event setup as needed.
* Perform record keeping as required by supervisor.
* Additional specific departmental duties as assigned.
Caretaker Responsibilities:
* Respond to Facilities emergencies, including alarms and calls of distress, as necessary.
* Act as a resource for the department and community.
* Act as part of a team and ensure all other members of the department are supported, including occasionally working with them to help them complete their assigned duties.
* Identify and report campus caretaking needs, such as cleanliness, landscaping, and maintenance issues.
* Enforce Naropa policies.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of information including access codes, incident reports, investigation details, and private departmental knowledge.
* Attend all necessary training.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Supervisory experience required.
* Must possess solid communication and organization skills and ability to prioritize.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Experience with plant care in urban landscapes.
* Experience with the safe operation of power equipment.
* Experience with the installation of fencing, benches, patios, retaining walls and hardscape.
* Experience with the care and use of hand tools.
* Experience with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
* The ability to follow direction and meet deadlines.
* Basic understanding of energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainability.
* Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office products as well as the ability to learn new programs.
* Ability and willingness to work evenings/weekends as needed.
* Valid driver's license.
* An appreciation for contemplative education and the mission of Naropa University.
Physical Requirements: In a regular workday, employees must be able to perform the following physical activities:
* Continuously stand and walk and frequently sit.
* Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
* Frequently bend, squat, reach above shoulder level and occasionally crawl.
* Use both right and left hands for repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
* Be exposed to heat, cold, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.
* Willing and able to complete a fitness for duty exam.
