In this dynamic role, you will work with Optum Technology Center to manage infrastructure for Optum Labs. You will work on architecture and infrastructure for virtual machines and big data. You will act as a liaison between OTC and Optum Labs. As an IT Systems Engineer, you will grow your career by learning big data administration and working with the latest technologies.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for deployment and Tier 2/3 support of the infrastructure to support Optum Labs. Optum Labs complex technology offering includes Lab Power tools (e.g. Natural History of Disease), analytic tools (R, SQL studio), virtual desktop interfaces, back-end database and analytics (IBM Pure Data Analytics). The “Data as a Product” offering is equally complex including data from Optum, AARP, Mayo and several other partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions


• Be a self-starter and an innovator


• Deploy, maintain and support hardware, software and operating systems to allow Optum Labs data product offerings to be successful


• Build the scripts, configure tools and write programs to automate the operations support for Optum Labs


• Leverage infrastructure monitoring tools to investigate and diagnose problems


• Configure and install new virtual and physical machine environments


• Be the primary point of escalation for first-tier technicians supporting Optum Labs


• Provide explanations and information to others on complex technical issues

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of overall IT experience


• 5+ years of experience with Linux administration in an enterprise environment


• 5+ years of experience with VMware administration in an enterprise environment


• 1+ years of experience with VM reporting, monitoring and optimization


• 1+ years of experience with automated software deployment tools

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to Neteezza or IBM Pure Data (big data appliances)


• Big Data Analytics experience


• Experience with ServiceNow


• Experience with Data Center Cabling


• Experience with network switch and router set up


• Flexibility


• Creative, able to create solutions from scratch


• Enjoy problem solving and fixing


• Adaptable self-starter
