In this exciting role, IT Database Specialist, you will work with state-of-the-art MS SQL database technologies and be part of a team of highly skilled IT Database professionals working on mission critical applications and systems.

As an IT Database Specialist, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of all functions of MS SQL database systems. You will be responsible for the following: database access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methodology. In this role you will monitor overall standards and procedures and assist in integrating various systems. You will also consult with users, determine requirements and recommend database establishment and utilization.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Provide database administration for mission-critical custom and packaged database software

  • Design storage strategies around backup and recovery for complex database environments, physical structures, and specialized database applications/systems

  • Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new/improved guidelines

  • Partner with project teams and interact with customers to find solutions for projects and Operational issues for existing and proposed databases

  • Act as a liaison serving as primary point of contact between application business segments and database administrators

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration, Web connectivity, physical structure, overall architecture, and database analysis

  • Provide standardization and consistency across environments

  • Ensure a stable and secure database environment

  • Implement and monitor database functionality to ensure stable environments

  • Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software)

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

  • Serve as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues

  • Solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions

  • Perform complex conceptual analyses

  • Review work performed by others and provides recommendations for improvement

  • Forecast and plan resource requirements

Job Description:



  • Interested candidate will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database

  • They will initially perform, and longer term provide oversight for all MS SQL database administration including MS SQL database design, installation, configuration, implementation, high availability options, backups, query optimization, index tuning, performance tuning and capacity planning

  • Monitor databases for problems, diagnose those problems and ensure timely resolution

  • Work with the various Engineering groups and ensure database changes are in-line with operational standards and meet the strategies needed to scale while maintaining a scalable, reliable, and robust database environment

  • Drive best practices in monitoring MS SQL databases with the ability to identify key performance indicators and put facilities in place to alarm on-call personnel for actionable events

  • Expert in reading and writing TSQL code, store procedures, triggers, sql server agent job setup, SSIS, SSRS

  • Expertise in various MS SQL High Availability technologies like AlwaysOn, Replication, Log Shipping, Failover Clustering  including when to use one method over another, limitations, and alternatives

  • Build database tools and scripts to automate where possible

  • Support MS SQL databases for production and development

  • Provide 24/7 escalated on-call support on a pager rotation

Requirements

Required Qualifications:



  • Undergraduate degree “OR” equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of MS SQL database experience in a complex, enterprise environment

  • 5+ years of Database Administration experience with the knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration

  • 5+ years of experience working with Application and/or System Database Administrators and development teams

 


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Healthcare industry experience

  • 1 year Experience with Data Warehouses and/or Data Marts
