Lab Assistant

Accurately & Legibly record all specimens received & verify proper ID in accordance with departmental guidelines. This position will involve sorting and loading specimens, some instrument maintenance, retrieving and storing specimens in a high test volume department. This individual will work with automated specimen handling equipment and communicate with Techs and other departments about the status of specimens and testing issues in generalPerforms all paperwork, technical, and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens. Assigns specific computer generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy, and records all items processed. Forwards accessioned specimens to designated laboratory location(s); and locating and correcting any discrepancies. Learns and keeps familiar with lab procedures and location of stored specimens. Locates specimens and pulls from various departments as requested.A background in packaging, shipping, lifting, loading, a production oriented or warehouse environment could be helpful.
