The Legal Secretary provides professional secretarial support to the Health Law Team ("HLT") of the Office of the General Counsel ("OGC"). The incumbent also performs a wide variety of office functions such as typing correspondence, including letters, memorandums, contracts, and reports generated by various members of the HLT. Incumbent also assembles and distributes documents to ensure a smooth and efficient flow of work within the office. This position performs other department support duties as assigned in the Risk Services Division. The incumbent has the authority to complete routine tasks within normal job assignments. The incumbent makes those day-to-day decisions required to perform principle accountabilities. These decisions may include, but are not limited to, calendaring changes, dissemination of information, format changes on documents, etc. The incumbent is limited to making decisions regarding principle accountabilities; all budgetary and work schedule issues are referred to the Director. The HLT Legal Secretary maintains a close, positive working relationship with other secretarial positions within the organization as well as all members of the OGC. This position requires that the individual perform effectively, considerately and professionally when dealing with other contacts that may include board members, senior management team members, attorneys, paralegals, and other individuals representing Sutter Health affiliates, law firms, and external clients. Many of these working relationships are associated with the exchange of documents, information, correspondence, and calendaring meetings. Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

Experience as a Legal Secretary or experience that has fostered the development of advanced secretarial skills within a healthcare organization or law office is required; the ability to perform beginning level legal research is required; and advanced word processing skills and demonstration of proper formatting of contracts and other legal documents are required. This type of experience is typically acquired in two (2) years of progressive experience and is desired. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as well as excellent knowledge of the English language, including correct use of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Beginning level legal research skills and understanding of distinctions among legal documents are required. Basic legal terminology is required. Knowledge of healthcare law is preferred. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the organization, functions, and policies and procedures of Sutter Health are also preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Day to day travel to Sutter's conference locations and occasional overnight travel. Therefore reliable transportation is required.

Education:

A High School Diploma is required.

A legal secretary certification is desired.
