Senior Infrastructure Engineer - Dallas
DESCRIPTION:
Client maintains several different data centers that are both self-managed and managed by outside providers. This position will be responsible for evaluating, designing, ordering, and providing direction for installation of midrange servers and blades.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will work to select, design, and deploy midrange servers, blades, and enclosures into self-managed and managed data centers.
Works hand in hand with project managers, engineers, administrators, and customers to deliver projects on time and in budget.
Develops documentation for requirements, architectural designs, engineering drawings and diagrams, as well as operational policies and procedures.
Sets hardware standards in conjunction with management. Maintains detailed server standards.
Works with suppliers on product lifecycle and refresh planning.
Develops documentation to deploy server, blades, and enclousres to the data center operations teams.
Encourages an environment of sharing and team work among the project teams.
Develops and documents best practices for system installation, deployment, and operation.
Manages technology proof of concept selection criteria, evaluation, and testing.
Explores and stays abreast of new technologies that can bring value to the organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or 5 to 7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of experience in the infrastructure engineering field.
Experience with HP and Cisco blades required. (i.e. BL460c and B200M3)
Experience with Oracle SPARC servers a plus (T4/T5 and M10).
Experience with managing firmware in an blade enclosure environment including virtual connect.
Configuring and troubleshooting skills in server hardware and software problems
Solid understanding in CPU, memory and hard drive, etc components
Understanding of SAN, NAS and local storage technologies
Familiarity with Microsoft, UNIX/Linux/VMware operating systems
Experience with systems evaluation testing
Performance tuning and monitoring to identify and resolve bottlenecks
Prefer experience with VMware
Working knowledge of Hardware performance trouble shooting and technologies
Understanding of Hardware best practices.
Ability to research, recommend and develop cost-effective solutions
Familiarity with Security Principles and methods.
Proactively identify troublesome trends as they develop; analyze/predict trends and develop a long-range plan designed to resolve problems and prevent them from recurring; maintain high service levels for the user community.
Ensure a stable performance environment enterprise wide and review high impact outages to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid them in the future.
Previous experience working with the ITIL and ITSM models.
Demonstrates good judgment and experience in technology selection and implementation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Provide excellent customer service, leadership, communication, problem solving and decision making skills.
Demonstrate strong prioritization, time management and organizational skills.
Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Listens, understands, and gets clarification. Seeks other input at all phases of the project.
