Position Purpose: The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the provision of nursing care to meet identified patient outcomes and to achieve the goals of the hospital as directed by the Registered Nurse. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Position Reports To: Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager and/or Nursing Supervisor

Position Supervises: May supervise Mental Health Technicians

Interpersonal Relationships: As a representative of Springwoods Behavioral Health, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct affect on the Facility's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork, which is congruent with facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

1. Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management.

2. Excellent organization and time management skills are required to cope with complex schedules and fluctuations in census.

3. Working knowledge of The Joint Commission and other federal, state and local laws that govern healthcare.

4. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff. Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public, department managers, and employees.

5. Must be able to exercise good judgment and make recommendations in the best interest of the hospital and its employees.

6. Maintain all competencies required by The Joint Commission, laws, hospital policies and other regulatory agencies.

7. Required visual acuity to provide observation of patients and physical agility to manage patients. Proficiency in reading and writing.

8. Good organization and time management skills.

9. Must have skill sets to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

10. Hours may vary based on staffing needs and includes day, evening, night and weekend shifts or a combination of shifts.

Licensed Practical Nurse POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Licenses or Certifications: Current LPN licensure in the state of Arkansas. Current CPR and AED certifications, or must obtain within 14 days of hire.

Total education, vocational training and experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. One year of nursing experience within the behavioral health field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is preferred.

Experience working with children (ages 5-12), adolescents (ages 13-18), and/or adults (ages 18 plus) preferred.
