Your Child Will Get the Highest Level of Care at OU Children's Hospital! Children's is the only free-standing pediatric hospital in the state. That means our doctors and medical staff are dedicated to the healing of children. The 21-bed pediatric emergency department (ED) sees more than 28,000 patients annually, providing 24/7 care to infants, children and young adults needing emergency medicine or urgent care. With the state's only Level One Trauma Center at OU Medical Center, we have the expertise on hand to treat injuries and emergencies of all types.

Essential Function/Duties of the Pediatric Emergency NP:

In collaboration with a physician, the Nurse Practitioner performs comprehensive initial patient evaluations through physical exam, patient history and review of laboratory results.

Assesses patients to assist physician in determining a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Documents information in patient medical record.

Conducts rounds, in addition to physician's rounds.

Develops and implements patient management plans and records progress notes.

Obtains orders from medical staff and activates approved treatment protocols.

Monitors patient response to treatment and adjusts treatment within the guidelines established by the treatment protocol.

Assists physician with procedures in accordance with defined qualifications and competencies. Performs procedures at the request of the physician in accordance with defined qualifications and competencies.

Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in interdisciplinary rounds for patient care and discharge to facilitate continuity of care.

When appropriate to the patient's needs, provides educational information to patient and family regarding the patient's condition.

May assist with the educational activities for the staff.

Prescribes or administers medications under physician direction and in accordance with Oklahoma State laws.

OU Children's Hospital works to provide a child- and family-friendly atmosphere, in every way. Our doctors, nurses and staff are trained in pediatrics, the medical treatment of children, so they can understand and support each child's physical, emotional and social needs, while in the hospital. We use language that children can understand and, when possible, medical play to explain procedures to our young patients. We spend time educating parents and care givers, so they are confident caring for their child after returning home.

Qualifications:

Licensure: Possession of a valid Oklahoma nursing license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing AND a Certificate of Recognition for Practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner from the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. Must have prescriptive authority.

Education: Master's Degree in Nursing

Recent Experience as an RN or NP in Pediatrics or Emergency in an Acute Care setting.
