The Medical Center of Aurora, the first community hospital in the Denver Metro area to receive Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence, is an acute care hospital with specialization in cardiovascular services, neurosciences, surgery, orthopedics and women's services. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Clinical Educator exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, and management activities. The Clinical Educator participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Education Plan. In a collaborative manner, the Educator participates in design, implementation, and evaluation of new programs, projects and systems. S/he coordinates preceptor education, facilitates charge nurse education, and facilitates and coordinates the planning, implementation and evaluation of the competency program. S/he fosters utilization and dissemination of evidenced based practice and research. The Educator provides consultation and education to students, nurses and other health care providers. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse; BLS -- Healthcare provider and ACLS required. Certification in specialty or like specialty preferred.

B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in nursing & Master's Degree in nursing or related required.

C. Experience: Two to four years acute care / specialty nursing is desirable. One to three years experience in charge / supervisory position desirable. One to three years experience as clinical Educator desirable. Able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory and practice.

D. Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrates good organizational skills, ability to teach or mentor in an effective manner, have clinical experience that enhances position, and ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services. Ability to assume responsibility for self development.

Degree of supervision required: Involves some general guidance and direction, and frequent collaboration and planning by the Director of Education and Patient Care Director. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Populations and Ages of Patients Served: This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
