Purchasing Assistant needed for a contract opportunity with Yoh's client located in Oxnard, CA


The Big Picture - Top Skills You Should Possess:



    - You will need to provide superior customer service to multiple functional groups, such as Operations, Inventory Management, Master Scheduling, Facilities, Materials Management and Corporate Purchasing.
    - Responsible for building and leveraging relationships with external vendors / suppliers.
    - You will need to quantify performance by baselining, measuring and publishing performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

What You'll Be Doing:



    - Ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed.
    - Ensuring that purchasing is taking the upmost precaution not to trade quality for cost and risking employees safety by procuring inferior products to achieve costs savings targets and ensuring that all products meet the appropriate internal and external safety standards required.
    - Creates purchase orders to source all material and services needed to support the Master Production Schedule (MPS).
    - Ensures MRP / MPS alignment.
    - Does all Purchasing for three plants.
    - Accurately maintain and update MRP system with supplier information, cost, lead times, safety stock values and minimum / maximum order quantities.
    - Forecast future requirements by using historical consumption data and forward looking sales forecasts.
    - Ensures the company's Freedom to Operate by following all company purchasing policies, SOX requirements, and procedural requirements.
    - Works with Operations to understand demand cycles and source goods and services appropriately to avoid stock-outs.
    - Identify and qualify new vendors, prepare RFQ's, negotiate contracts with suppliers, in support of department cost savings initiatives.
    - Monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as Months of Supply On-Hand (MSOH), Inventory Turns, Budget Adherence, Supplier Performance (OTD), as well as report on key initiatives such as Supplier Risk Management, and Supply Base Rationalization.
    - Work closely with Receiving and Accounts Payable to resolve receipt and / or invoice matching issues.
    - Work to reduce or alleviate impact of potential material shortage by expediting material that may delay production schedules to meet unforeseen conditions and events.
    - Regularly interfaces with Master Scheduling, Materials Management, and Operations, statusing material availability and mitigating against production stoppages.
    - Reviews and corrects daily all exceptions between the purchase order, receipts and invoices.
    - Reviews and contacts the vendors in regard to pending due dates based on the open PO report to ensure a timely receipt of goods and services as well as accurate month end accruals.
    - Resolves issues with suppliers concerning price, terms, or delivery date.
    - Ensures all purchases are in conformance with the annual budget and have proper approval based on DOA.
    - Monitoring inventory levels and maintaining enough inventory to ensure adequate levels for day-to-day operations while minimizing the amount of money tied up in inventory balances.
    - Coordinating cycle counts, ensuring accurate inventory balances, and coordinating the inventory reconciliations so that inventories reflect accurately.
    - Ensures timely reporting of all P-card purchases, following company policy and appropriate DOAs. Allocating charges to their appropriate cost centers to ensure spend accountability.
    - Ensures that all company policies, procedures and work instructions are being followed appropriately, particularly in regards to safety, SOX and QMS procedures.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:



    - Bachelors Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or similar discipline
    - Preferred two (2) years of experience in purchasing and / or procurement
    - Knowledge of inventory management and materials management
    - Knowledge of Material Resource Planning (MRP)
    - ERP experience required

Bonus Points:



    - Lean manufacturing certification / training a plus
    - Knowledge of the seed industry is a plus
    - SAP experience preferred
    - APICs certification preferred
    - Green Belt preferred
