Lab Technician I

Qualifications:

The candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude; strong attention to detail, willing to adapt to change; reliable and flexible. Experience in a high-throughput environment is a plus.

B.S. degree is a plus but not required. Prior scientific work experience or course work is a plus.

Additional Details: In this role, the candidate will conduct laboratory tests in accordance with ISO and in-house standards. The candidate may assist in any department of the laboratory as lab work flow requires. The candidate will participate in safety programs and will need to comply with all safe work practices.

Comments:

Extraction Lab Technician I:
This position entails extracting protein from seed for ELISA testing or extracting DNA from seed for SNP testing. These positions require extreme attention to detail, ability to learn new tasks quickly and the ability to work in a fast paced environment with repetitive tasks. The tasks for these positions include crushing corn seed, disposing of seed and seed plates, washing bb's, making buffers, cleaning, sweeping, organizing lab space, moving bags of recycling, stocking lab items, lifting and moving of boxes of samples and supplies, decontaminating equipment, performing other basic lab tasks, planting/harvesting embryonic tissue and working with a variety of automated equipment.

This position works closely with other team members so the candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude; strong attention to detail, willing to adapt to change; reliable and flexible. Experience in a high-throughput environment is a plus
Hours for this position are (but subject to change):
Shift 1: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Shift 2: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
*Need to be flexible and be available for overtime and possible weekend work based on training and sample volume.


SNP Lab Technician I:
The SNP position will be responsible for setting up PCR reactions for SNP analysis, determining priorities, filling pre-filled plates, and scoring data. This position requires extreme attention to detail, ability to learn new tasks quickly and the ability to work in a fast paced environment with repetitive tasks. Hours for this position are (but subject to change):
Shift 1: 5am-1:30pm
Shift 2: 6am-2:30pm
Shift 3: 12pm-8:30pm

*Need a flexible schedule to move between shifts based on training & sample volume and work overtime/weekends as required by sample volume.
