Responsibilities* Job Function/Duties:

The Academic Advisor will be responsible for providing a range of administrative and support services to the students, Program Director and grant management team. The position demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to provide proactive support and to complete independent projects as well as work in a team-oriented culture/structure. Duties include the provision of detail academic student advising, coordination of admission processes, support services and student retention; assistance in the production of grant and evaluation materials, establishment/maintenance of required tracking systems and reports, participation in department and grant meetings as designated.

Examples of Job Functions/Duties

Advising/Recruitment & Retention:

- Coordinate and monitor student admission processes

- Advise pre-nursing and undergraduate students online and face to face on prerequisites, curriculum, general education, transfer credits/process and other matters to fulfill Department of Nursing and University requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Veteran?s Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing programs.

- Counsel and guide students in course selections, progression requirements and issues.

- Retrieve, examine and participate in reconciliation of transcripts, transfer credits, student schedules, course rosters, wait lists, etc. as needed.

- Participate with others as an initial point of contact for inquires, provide response and maintain records of contacts.

- Provide detail analysis of student records and determine clearance for students for registration.

- Monitor and follow-up accordingly related to student retention.

- Complete graduation audits and course prerequisite checks.

- Plan, coordinate, and attend nursing recruitment events including at locations such as community colleges, military bases, veteran hospitals, other military health facilities, etc.

- Coordinate nursing information sessions and open house events at local/regional community colleges, veteran hospitals and other designated entities/locations.

- Assist VBSN Project Director and Manager with specialty events as directed.

- Maintain and retrieve report data as requested.

- Other duties as requested.

Administrative:

- Process course reviews for transfer/waiver credit.

- Assist with nursing committee work as assigned.

- Plan and assist with formal ceremonies, seminars, grant programs, and orientations

- Work with faculty and staff to determine and process student awards etc (scholarships and graduation awards, Pi Delta eligibility etc).

- Assist with proctored exams and administration of program evaluation.

- Collect student petitions for Student Affairs and Academic Standards Committees.

- Coordinate social media recruitment and advising initiatives for the Program.

- Assist with website maintenance.

- Special projects as assigned.

- Orient and participate in student clinical competence evaluation.

Admissions:

- Process records, set up and maintain files/electronic files, and send admittance communications to newly admitted students.

- Check student codes and make changes as necessary.

Team work:

- Work with Department of Nursing colleagues, faculty, students, and those in other departments to accomplish tasks and responsibilities

- Contribute/participate in Department of Nursing operations in ways that promote team effectiveness and overall positive departmental Esprite de corps

Required Qualifications* - Bachelor's Degree required.

- Teaching/teaching related experience in higher education preferred.

- Attention to detail required.

- Military experience/association/veteran status preferred.

- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills preferred.

- 1-2 years advising experience in institution of higher education preferred.

- 1-2 years administrative experience preferred.

- Skilled user of Microsoft Office Suite programs and university electronic student matriculation/business systems preferred.

- Knowledge of social media platforms desirable: Facebook, Twitter

- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationship with a variety of constituencies including staff, students, faculty, consultants, and community partners.

- Experience working with diverse, multicultural groups, including racial and/or ethnic minorities and other traditionally underrepresented groups.

- Knowledge of the nursing profession and current nursing workforce needs especially in the areas of cultural competencies and health disparities.

- Experience with student recruitment preferred.
