Grantland is a highly demanding, high-volume sports and culture website that places a focus on quality of content. The part-time Associate Editor (Copy) will assist the copy chief and team as final gatekeeper, the last pair of eyes, and a coordinator of consistency when it comes to style and tone. This individual will need to be organized and have the ability to manage a large amount of copy on deadline.

The Associate Editor (Copy) will also be responsible for ensuring the basic integrity of the copy, from grammar and style to simple fact checking (accurate statistics, correct years, names, etc.), with speed and efficiency.

The position is part-time, with a maximum of 29 hours per week. Strong candidates will have the option to work remotely. Grantland is based on the West Coast but publishes on an East Coast schedule (predicted hours for this position would be Monday through Thursday 8am-2pm ET, Friday 8am-1pm ET).

Responsibilities Copyedits blog posts, features, social media and video copy, and special pages on deadline for clarity and consistency of tone and style Communicates notes and edits to editors and collaborates to determine what changes, if any, to make Gives final OK to homepage and blog editors when a piece is ready to be published or featured Flags content or language that might be inappropriate or offensive Collaborates with fellow-members of copy desk to triage urgent copy and streamline workflow When needed, pitches in on fact check and research efforts Basic Qualifications

Experience in online media content preparation, including WordPress and basic html coding Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and common web practices Familiarity with sports terminology Ability to work in a rapidly changing online environment Minimum two years of experience copyediting magazine-style copy, and at least one year of experience at a major magazine or online publication Required Education BS/BA degree in communication arts, journalism, or new media, or equivalent combination of experience Additional Information Imagine a career with an organization that brings smiles to millions every day.
