POSITION SUMMARY:

RTI International is seeking part time traveling field staff, for the Add Health Parent Survey. Traveling Field Interviewers (TFIs) will be responsible for traveling to participant’s homes to interview parents of respondents who were interviewed in the baseline study. This position is part time, offering an average of 20 hours/week. When on overnight travel status, TFIs will work additional hours. The position is scheduled to begin with training in August 2015. The project is scheduled to continue through March 2018. We are looking for individuals able to work evening and weekend hours, maintain a varied schedule, and travel overnight and potentially out of state, as needed. Qualified candidates should be available to work through the duration of the project. Additional work may be available as part of future phases of the study.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be available for at least 15 - 20 hours per week to conduct interviewing during the field data collection period.
  • Must be able and willing to work primarily evenings and weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
  • Must be able to spend at least 4 hours (not counting travel time) locating and contacting selected respondents on each field visit when work is plentiful.
  • Need to be available for a variable work schedule, as dictated by case requirements, including overnight travel.
  • Adhere to a schedule set by supervisor that ensures respondents are contacted in a timely fashion
  • Conduct valid, high quality in-person interviews in compliance with all project protocols covered at training and documented in the project manual.
  • Must be able to read text verbatim from a computer screen (i.e. a laptop) and paper documents and to collect GPS readings and informed consents from respondents
  • Report to immediate supervisor in a prompt, reliable and accurate fashion.
  • Assume responsibility for and carefully track all monies used for cash incentives.
  • Available for overnight travel to interview respondents
  • Assume full and legal responsibility for use and care of the computer and GPS, taking reasonable and appropriate steps to safeguard it against damage, loss, or theft, and returning the laptop at the conclusion of the Add Health PS assignment or at a supervisor’s request.
  • Keep all project information confidential.
  • Ability to complete all required activities in a professional manner, while maintaining the integrity of all information acquired.
  • Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with your supervisor and other project staff, objectively sharing your thoughts while displaying an understanding of project management’s concerns.
  • Be receptive—not defensive—when given feedback from project personnel about your performance, striving to learn and improve.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • One year of experience directly or indirectly related to interviewing is preferred.
  • Personal automobile available for business use, as required.
  • Effective interpersonal and verbal communications skills.
  • Have regular access to an in-home internet connection for data transmissions.
  • Available for work on the project August 1, 2015 through March 30, 2018. The field interviewer position will require an average of 20 hours per week, generally, and sometimes 40 hours during training and other periods.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by the first date of employment.
  • Availability for overnight travel either by personal automobile or air travel as specifically required for project trainings and other activities.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.


TRAINING & PAY

Travel to, attend and successfully complete a 4-day long FI training session, including certification, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Periodically, successfully complete all components of on the job and veteran FI trainings will be required. Pay for this position will be commensurate with experience.
