Currently, Meijer is looking for a General Merchandise Line Leader. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for planning, directing and supervising Team Members in the day to day operations of the General Merchandise area. Developing and implementing strategies to improve customer service, driving store sales and increasing profitability. Ensuring customer needs are met, complaints are resolved effectively and efficiently and service is quick and efficient. Ensuring that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. Forecasting staffing needs and developing recruiting strategy to provide optimal staffing in all areas of the General Merchandise Line. Is responsible for the selection, training and development and performance management of the General Merchandise Team Leaders and Softlines Team Leader.
Key responsibilities include:
Supervising the execution of the Merchandising plan to ensure that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability
Responsibility for P&L, achieving sales, labor and margin plans for the department
Implementing Corporate processes to achieve goals including shrink, margin, profit, sales, labor
Modeling exceptional, fast and friendly customer service
Ensuring the GM team is property hired, staffed and thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and have completed all required training
Mentoring and coaching the General Merchandise team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the General Merchandise area is maintained to Meijer standards
Promoting succession planning by providing career paths, identifying development needs for the General Merchandise team
Reviewing Customer Survey and customer feedback from the previous day or week
Spending 80% of time on sales floor communicating with customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered
Reviewing sales goals, supply costs, stockloss/shrink results and goals
Communicating the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations
Inventory preparation of the General Merchandise Sales Floor and Backroom
Supervising the General Merchandise Team to:
Ensure the merchandising and customer service levels are to Meijer standards
Ensure balance on hand integrity
Stock work assignments built by the Pricing/Inventory team
Execute all transitions in the General Merchandise
Merchandise all not on planogram product after the product has come off of a planogram
Merchandise all store owned space such as endcaps and flex areas
Promoting a safe work environment throughout the line
Working until at least 11pm on nights scheduled to close
Reliable and consistent attendance required
Other daily tasks as required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Minimum 6-10 years of related experience in the field
Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction
Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions
Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling
Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times
Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders
