MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Engineer ("PE") will be responsible for completing a number of activities in support of, and under the direction of, Program and Project Managers. While specific tasks will vary from project to project, the PE will be charged with certain core responsibilities at all times. These include communication and coordination among many project participants, problem solving, activity tracking, project-specific tasks and assuring that project controls are in place and monitored for compliance.

Tasks associated with the PE's major responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Communication & Coordination: coordinate meetings, assist in design review and permit processing, coordinate documents between Architects, Engineers and General Contractors, coordinate As-Built & project close-out document issuance, coordinate submittals, RFI's and logs, directory and drawing lists, and perform other coordination tasks as necessary.
  • Management tasks: manage contractor activities with campus partners (shut downs, signage, site impacts, access (Keys) etc.), manage community outreach and issue updates to user community groups as required, manage the development and completion of punch lists, manage the technical close out of projects, manage the occupants' temporary and permanent moves, manage small projects and serve as back up to the Project Manager in meetings and management tasks, as necessary.
  • Project controls: develop, monitor and maintain project schedules, work closely with the program and project managers and financial analyst to develop budgets, update cost forecasts and investigate cost alternatives, visit jobsites on a regular basis and provide progress/status reports in the form of field notes and digital photos as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualifications for this position include a related technical bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of Project Engineering/Construction experience, including strong field experience and familiarity with a variety of building types.
  • The candidate must possess effective communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to interact effectively at all levels, with a variety of groups/persons, including end users, general contractors, architects, consultants, etc.
  • The candidate will be an independent, self-starter and will demonstrate the ability to take initiative.
  • A proficiency of Excel, and the ability to read and work with plans, specifications and construction schedules is necessary.
  • A working knowledge of scheduling software is a plus.
