Staffmark currently has an opening for a talented individual to fill the role of Senior Accountant in NYC, NY. This opportunity is a full-time/ direct hire role with an organization that provides accounting services to non-profits in NYC.

As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for:
Essential Job Functions
Technical
In order to ensure that all work that our client's Sr. Associates produce and deliver is 100% in accordance with the Quality Management Systems (QMS), Senior Associates will:

Ensure all tasks on the Periodic Closing Checklist ("PCC") are completed timely and accurately, and ensure client accounting records are reconciled and complete.

Analyze management financial reports, including but not limited to:


Statement of Activities (Income Statement)

Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet)

Cash Flow Statement

Budget v. Actual Variance Report


Prepare notes, where applicable, explaining variances against the budget in order to provide insight and clarity to the reader.

Assist Manager and/or client with the preparation of the annual budget and/or projections/forecasts where applicable.

Assist in the preparation of Board packages for client Finance/Audit/Board meetings.

Preparing for audits, be a key contributor in creating a complete package for the auditors. This requires meeting all requirements of the auditors' request list and preparing the package in accordance with auditor's timeline. Where requested by the Audit firm, assist the Manager with the preparation of financial statements and footnotes.

Prepare the 990 checklist form as requested by the audit firm.

Assist with the implementation and development of standard accounting policies and procedures in accordance with QMS standards.

Recognize and communicate to Manager internal control weaknesses/opportunities and/or where our client's best practices need to be in-place. Follow through to successful solution.



Client Management


Prepare for and participate in new engagement start-up meeting in order to have a thorough understanding of client expectations, including but not limited to:


Understand and manage client expectations as discussed and quantified in the new client engagement meeting and as defined in the:


Engagement letter

PCC, and

Within the Big Time client budget report



Participate in the ongoing client relationship management with both client Manager and Manager of Special Projects.



Deliver financial and management reports to the Executive Director (or person we report to) on a timely basis (determine this with client).

Ensure all audit/990 deliverables are met by client/auditor's deadlines utilizing client accounting staff.

Ensure Budgets are prepared and approved as per client timeline.

Following Communications Policy, communicate pro-actively with Manager and/or client to establish strong trust and get in front of potential conflicts/problems. For example, anticipate possible conflict situations and take initiative to resolve problems quickly, involving others as needed. If uncertain, take initiative to reach out to Manager.


Standards

Adhere to all of company policies and procedures in the Manual, and to all Quality Management Systems to build and maintain culture and to provide consistent high quality service.

Follow security policies, including Drop Box procedures, to ensure the safety, integrity, and confidentiality of client files and information.

Prepare timely CSMs to provide Managers with relevant information so they are better able to respond to issues ahead of time (proactively) and effectively manage client engagements.

Contribute relevant information to "knowledge" database so that all staff will have access to helpful information that will enhance job knowledge and job performance.

Arrange work schedule for the following week with client and Manager (schedules for the following two weeks should be submitted to the Manager by 5.00pm - Thursday).

Submit weekly timesheets on a timely basis -- by the Wednesday following the workweek.

Utilize all forms of communication -- email, voicemail, CSM's etc. - on a regular basis per the Communications Policy.

Attend various job trainings/workshops offered in order to further develop technical, management, and organizational skills.

Maintain professional dress standards.

Perform job responsibilities in a standard eight-hour workday that includes one hour for lunch. Start time is promptly at 9am and the official end time at 5pm. This is the rule unless otherwise agreed-upon with the client and management.

Act as mentor to Analysts, Associates, and client accounting staff where applicable.


The ideal Senior Auditor/ Accounting Advisor candidate will have:
Strong writing skills is a must. Ability to capture in writing a process succinctly so a person not familiar with a task can follow it

Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting systems

Degree in Accounting preferred

5 -- 10 years Accounting/ Auditing experience in Non Profit realm preferred
