Under the general supervision of the Server Operations Unit Chief, the Systems Software Specialist II (Technical) (SSS II) is responsible for workload planning and overseeing and administering more complex enterprise systems and servers for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The incumbent also provides technical leadership to various teams in the Server Operations and Services Section (SOSS) and for the California Email System (CES). The SSS II is responsible for all aspects of data center planning, administration, installation of physical devices and server administration for remote office locations throughout CDPH. The SSS II provides third level support for servers, networks, video conferencing infrastructure, and cloud based video broadcasting services for CDPH. The position requires a person who can independently provide direction and be responsible for the deployment, implementation and support of automation systems. The SSS II requires expert knowledge and abilities in all aspects of enterprise systems support, including server performance monitoring systems, Windows operating systems, email, anti-virus, and Active Directory maintenance.

The SSS II must possess a high level of knowledge and skill in the areas of software installation, Microsoft PowerShell scripting, system maintenance, backup and recovery, on-line server performance monitoring, theTCP/IP protocol suite, information security fundamentals, and resolving complex technical issues within CDPH enterprise and other associated data centers.

The types of servers supported include, but are not limited to: file, e-mail, communication servers and gateways, Citrix presentation servers, and application servers. This activity requires the individual to analyze data, issues and situations, provide thorough deductive reasoning, identify problems, and develop comprehensive effective solutions.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Expert level understanding of Windows Server Operating systems

Expert level understanding of TCP/IP protocol suite

Experience maintaining Microsoft Exchange email systems.

Thorough understanding of Windows based video media servers.
