Aerotek is currently seeking to build a team of Engineering Technicians for a large Construction client in the Knoxville, TN area to provide Construction oversight and quality assurance expertise on environmental construction projects.

This is a Direct Hire position working a long-term contract. Typical work weeks reflect an average of 55 hours per week, spread across five 11 hour shifts. Position requires heavy travel offering per diem on projects.

SCOPE OF PROJECTS: Current projects include various locations in TN, KY, and northern AL. Scope varies by project and client, but are generally civil construction projects involving large scale earth moving and grading operations, utility and storm water conveyance installation, and with the possibility of cast-in-place concrete and geosynthetic liner system installation.

SUMMARY: The Engineering Technician is typically an on-site representative for the Engineering Manager; and will be expected to communicate with a construction contractor, a client representative, and the Engineering Manager regarding daily field activities. In addition to communicating in person and by phone, the Engineering Technician documents the project activities in a daily field report. The Engineering Technician will conduct material property field tests of soil, with the possibility of additional testing on concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Engineering Technician is responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities in a quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) role; collecting material samples for laboratory testing (soil, concrete, aggregate, etc.); conducting field material property tests for project specification compliance. Ideally the Engineering Technician will already have or be prepared to obtain certifications for material testing (ACI, NICET, nuclear moisture/density gauge training, etc.).

CREDENTIALS: Candidates for the Engineering Technician position will have a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to pass a background check, pre-access and random drug screenings, and possess a valid drivers license. Candidates must be physically capable of lifting fifty pounds. Military and/or construction experience and computer skills (e.g., working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) are preferable. Candidates will be willing and available for frequent travel for extended duration; travel expenses are reimbursed for projects away from home. Construction QA/QC experience with earth movement and associated testing are desired; experience with geosynthetic liner system installation is a plus.
