Perform case finding, abstracting, and quality control of all reportable neoplasms, according to local, state, and national guidelines. Complete abstracts (case summaries) that are submitted to the California Cancer Registry and National Cancer Data Base. Assist in special projects, such as quality review of cancer cases and program alignment with national benchmarks. Participates in carrying out the Cancer Registry Quality Control Plan of the Cancer Program.

Education: Minimum of high school diploma. Completion of medical terminology and two college-level courses in anatomy and physiology strongly preferred. Enrollment to and NCRA accredited formal education Associates Degree Program or Certificate Program strongly preferred.

Experience: Three years recent experience in an ACOS-accredited hospital cancer registry, health information department, or clinical research setting required.

Knowledge: Knowledge of medical coding, ICD-O coding, American College of Surgeons Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS) Manual, SEER Multiple Primary & Histology manual. Experience with cancer registry software or electronic record-keeping systems. Familiarity with oncology treatment guidelines and practices. Knowledge of document tracking systems, merging data, and database management strongly preferred.

License, certification: Must qualify to apply to CTR Certification Examination by July 1, 2014. Must obtain CTR certification by January 1, 2015.

Special Skills and/or Equipment Used: Computer and word processing experience. Experience using database software preferred. Phone and electronic communication courtesy techniques. Ability to be flexible in work habits and environment, and to handle confidential data. Capacity to communicate effectively with medical center staff and external customers at all levels.
