High impact role, supporting the Human Resources for REM West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia - an employee headcount of over 3000 employees in 3 states. Serve as a business partner to an Executive Director, other HR colleagues, and other key operations stakeholders. Reporting to the HR Director for Redwood East, with a dotted line to the Executive Director, lead HR initiatives, programs, and activities that support business goals and objectives. This role has 4 direct reports and 4 indirect reports. The staff and programs you will support provide people with innovative, quality services and care that lead to growth and independence.

While you'll provide the full array of HR services, you can expect to invest the largest part of your time in employee relations, workers compensation, employee retention and training. You will focus on both strategic HR programs as well as tactical HR solutions, helping your business leaders think more proactively on HR issues, employee engagement, and meeting business goals through proper HR management and development.

Partnering closely with Operations, you'll manage the full range of HR issues and programs for the state. You'll also spend a good deal of your time coaching managers on employee relations issues, responding to employee concerns and conducting internal investigations, consulting with the HR Director and Legal as appropriate.

Another focus will be assisting in the implementation of safety programs and workers compensation,and assessing training needs. This will include counseling leaders and employees about on-the-job and formal training opportunities to develop new skills and prepare for advancement.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Direct the HR function for the delivery of effective human resources services such as employment, employee relations, training and development, and performance management and coaching to the regional business group.

  • Supervise HR team. Conduct performance evaluations, assess development plans and training as necessary.

  • Provide proactive HR solutions to complex workforce related issues.

  • Make recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and performance evaluations.

  • Collaborate with leaders to develop, retain employees and promote quality service.

  • Organize and direct the implementation and administration of human resources activities and carry out policies and procedures relating to all phases of HR.

  • Participate in the performance management process and maintenance of succession plans.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of the operating group's human resources related strategic and tactical business plans.

  • Ensure consistent application of HR programs, policies, and practices used across The Network.

  • Conduct needs assessment to identify, develop, and implement training and other workforce related programs as appropriate.

  • Regularly review and analyze metrics data to identify developing trends that impact the business. Keep leadership informed.

  • Plan and facilitate training programs.

  • Ensure the proper resolution of employee relations issues. Review and approve employee discharges and other disciplinary actions. Ensure the proper administration of organizational restructures and workforce transition efforts.

  • Provide coaching to managers on the most effective ways of addressing employee issues. Improve employee satisfaction by identifying and responding to concerns and developing leadership and morale-building programs.

  • Maintain a current knowledge of problems with morale or organizational effectiveness. Review information such as employee exit data, turnover, statistics, and complaints to identify problem areas and trends. Develop and administer corrective action plans.


Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources required; PHR certification is preferred.

  • Minimum of five years HR Generalist experience, including extensive work with employee relations, internal investigations, workers compensation and training.

  • Minimum of two-three years of supervisory experience; demonstrated management skills.

  • Exceptional relationship management abilities with strong coaching and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with large workforces distributed across many small sites, such as retail or restaurant industries, preferred.

  • Experience preferred in working with employee base comprised primarily of hourly, non-exempt, workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance shifting priorities between the tactical, day-to-day needs of role, and the project-based, strategic needs of the HR function. Ability to act as a strategic partner with business leaders; action-oriented.
  • Self-motivation, a high-energy approach and a sense of urgency.

  • Excellent organizational skills, communication abilities; customer-focused.

This is a field HR role. You will be traveling an average of a few times a month to field offices and programs. This will include overnight travel. In general you will plan your travel ahead, but occasionally you will need to drive or fly to a location on short notice to handle an employee relations issue or to conduct an internal investigation.
