We are seeking top IT talent looking to build a career with the world's largest home improvement retailer, operating over 76 distribution centers supporting over 2,000 stores in the US and Canada.  As a Transportation Support Systems Engineer II, your role will be to resolve or engage the appropriate resources to address technical issues reported by DC operations and users of the transportation management systems, yard management systems, and all related applications.  You will work with other Home Depot IT teams, vendor  IT teams, and business partners that understand what it takes to support distribution center operations for a large, fast paced retailer.   You will apply advanced problem solving techniques and coordinate with infrastructure matrix teams to quickly and effectively resolve system issues.  This is a technical role.  The ideal candidate will have an application and/or support programming background and ideally possess technical working knowledge of distribution system infrastructure and application knowledge.  The Systems Engineer resolves issues reported by Transportation operations personnel through a ticketing system and provides resolution in a timely manner.  Supports technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software.  Performs debugging, root cause analysis, and preventative measures for system and application issues and presents to management.   Support engineers work core business hours and have rotational on-call and weekend duties. 


Position Purpose:

This position is to add a Transportation / Yard Management support resource to the TMS Support team.  This is to backfill a position on the team.  Also, this will provide additional support with the new YMS responsibilities.  This will also correctly staff the team in preparation for the TMS Upgrade project.. The Systems Engineer II will be responsible for the daily support of the Transporation Management System, Yard Management System, and all related applications for Home Depot's distribution centers and SSC.  


Nature and Scope:

Typical responsibilities include monitoring the ticketing inbox and working on assigned tickets, working application and systems issues to resolution, interacting with the high visibility personnel at the distribution centers to clarify and address issues, engaging related technical teams to resolve complex issues, managing outages including establishing crisis bridge and communicating to upper management, rotational on call responsibility for Primary and Secondary pager,  participating in technical and operational calls and supporting regular maintenance/release activities.  The individual will also be responsible for working with the Project Development team and associated vendors’ customer support organizations to submit application defects for issues encountered while addressing daily tasks and regular maintenance activities as part of the workload. This is a high demand, high availability environment that requires the ability to handle a significant workload.  The ideal candidate will preferably have Manhattan TMS, Zebra YMS, SQL, and/or Java experience to strengthen the capabilities of the team to take on current and future challenges.  This will also keep us on track with issue/defect reduction efforts in this space which will translate to cost savings and quality of support for the distribution centers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Proficient with creating and executing SQL queries and \familiarity with Oracle, Linux, Windows Server OS, MS SQL Server, IIS, EDI, EAI, MQ, Java, and Client-Server technologies
  • Experience (Yrs): 1+ support large multi-platform IT operations
  • Candidate should possess superior attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Should have good communication skills and ability to resolve issues quickly in a high pressure environment
  • Working knowledge of PC hardware and software is essential
  • Ability to properly interpret user reported issues to determine appropriate resolution
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization
  • Experience in Manhattan Transportation Management System and/or Zebra Yard Management System
