Job Summary :
An intern (typical 10-12 week, full-time schedule assignment) position is a temporary assignment with 3M's Corporate Student Programs. Corporate Student Programs is designed to provide 3M with the opportunity to identify qualified candidates for regular employment, and to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their academic knowledge with work experience. As a Student Programs participant located in Maplewood, MN you will develop skills, and gain work experience in your field of study.
Interns in 3M's Strategic Business Development department, a unit of 3M Strategy and Corporate Development, provide internal consulting services to the company's 25+ divisions. This leadership development program offers interns the opportunity to contribute daily to the growth of 3M's five business groups: Health Care, Industrial, Consumer, Safety & Graphic and Electronics & Energy. Interns work closely with business development, marketing, sales, and technical personnel to address a variety of domestic and international business situations.
Project areas include:
- Strategy: corporate and divisional strategic planning, market platforms assessment, technology assessment, growth plans, Emerging Business Opportunity (EBO) strategy development, etc.
- Business Development: business modeling, new business development processes, mergers & acquisitions strategy and planning, etc.
- Marketing: market and product opportunity analysis, commercialization of new products, new product introduction process, pricing analysis, competitive analysis, segmentation, conjoint studies, brand building, eBusiness, etc.
A Strategic Business Development Intern is normally assigned three projects for the summer:
- Individual project for a division or business.
- Pair project, usually with one experienced member of the SBD team.
- Intern team project, typically with other interns and full time team members.
This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Managing and/or participating on cross-functional teams.
- Analyzing business data and making actionable recommendations for clients and division management.
- Conducting primary and secondary research to obtain market data.
- The Strategic Business Development department seeks individuals who meet the following requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in the first year of an MBA program with an emphasis in marketing, finance, strategy, and/or general management at an accredited university
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in Marketing, Finance, Strategy, Engineering, Business or Sales
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and high ethical standards
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and team skills
- Superior quantitative and analytical skills
