Job Description

The Nursing Education Specialist is responsible for collaborative assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation or consultation on educational activities to develop, maintain and enhance clinical, educational and leadership skills of nursing and allied health personnel. This nurse acts as a resource with regard to new policies, procedures, equipment and healthcare information. The Nursing Education Specialist serves as a resource to the unit based educators on educational issues such as developing curriculum and identifying appropriate teaching methodologies. This individual is responsible for the coordination of patient education activities within assigned work units. The Nursing Education Specialist must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. This nurse must have the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's specific needs. The Nursing Education Specialist must have the knowledge and ability to apply principles of the adult learner. This individual supports leadership through activities that include committee and project work, community involvement and integration of research when appropriate. The American Nurses Association(ANA)Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Association for Nursing Professional Development(ANPD)and the American Nurses Credentialing Center Continuing Education/Accreditation (ANCC) guidelines provide a basis for care.

Basic Qualifications:

Masters degree required. Bachelors or Masters degree must be in nursing. Three years successful work experience as a registered nurse,required.

Other Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, organizational, self-directive and goal-directed skills. Demonstrated skills in educational methods and adult learner principles. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Strong computer skills required. Previous teaching experience and certification in nursing staff development preferred. Academic rank and nurse planner experience preferred. Instructor certification preferred. BLS Instructor certification preferred.

License or Certification:

Current Arizona registered nurse licensure required. Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.BLS Instructor certification preferred upon hire or acquired within 1 year. Instructor certification upon hire or acquired within 1 year.

Schedule Details: Days Mon-Fri. Flexible to meet the needs of the department.

Weekend Schedule:

Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every two weeks is approximately $2,871.20, based on a full-time position.
