Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire a Clinical Nurse Specialist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.
Department Profile
Orlando Nursing Education Department comprises of both Nurse Educators and Clinical Nurse Specialists. Working together we facilitate recruitment, orientation, and professional development of our nursing teams. Our main job responsibilities include learning and teaching evidence based practice, empowering our staff as advocates for their patients and facilitate process changes, supporting professional achievements at both the individual and unit level, and to grow and fully develop our new employees.

Job Summary
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist with Florida Hospital Orlando, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for providing clinical expertise in his/her specialty area to optimize patient/family, nurse, and systems outcomes and:
Directly or indirectly plans, implements, and evaluates patient and family specific care appropriate to the complexity of the problems and resources of the system
Uses clinical inquiry to improve clinical practice and service outcomes
Assesses and evaluates care delivery models; implements changes based on outcome data
Develops education programs to improve patient outcomes and quality of care
Supports the practice of nursing through presentations, publications, research and involvement in professional organizations
Contributes within the institution to establish clinical best practice system processes
Coordinates with multiple disciplines to solve system issues
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience Required
Advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice in specialty
Skill in the use of specialized equipment used in respective area of practice
Ethical decision making and patient advocacy
BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP certification (Preferred)
Knowledge of learning principles for population served (Preferred)
Master's degree in clinical nursing specialty
Three to five years' experience in specialty (qualifying specialties outlined in Florida State Board of Nursing documentation)
Past teaching experience in formal/informal settings (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required
Current, valid State of Florida license as a registered professional nurse
Current registration with Florida State Board of Nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
Certification is required for Clinical Nurse Specialist serving the Diabetes and/or Oncology populations. For other populations, certification is preferred

Supports complex patient care issues, identifies patients at risk for suboptimal outcomes and proposes a proactive plan of care. Coordinates and/or supports patient education programs and evaluates impact of patient education programs.
Interprets and/or establishes practice standards, policy and procedures, standards of care, protocols, and critical pathways. Monitors practice standards and evaluates impact on patient care.
Identifies problematic systems/ process issues, develops plans to improve, and monitors outcomes. Develops/implements process improvement and/or clinical best practice initiatives at the organizational and unit level.
Acts as a change agent, evaluates environment for change-readiness, and develops and implements plans for change. Monitors change driven outcomes.
Monitors and evaluates nursing practice. Identifies professional growth needs of the nursing staff. Implements and evaluates a plan to address nursing staff, growth, and development needs. Evaluates the impact of staff education on patient care.
Facilitates the development of nurse's advocacy and moral agency through teaching, coaching, and role modeling. Seeks additional educational options that support his/hers clinical expertise in practice. Serves as a nursing leader through publications, research, consultation, presentation, or clinical practice.
Participates in patient care advocacy issues directed toward creating quality care.
Knowledgeable about current research and evidence based practices in area of expertise and recommends changes in practice as appropriate. Incorporates research findings into policies and procedures and standards of care. Conducts formal and /or informal research in areas identified by performance improvement, clinical issues and unit/hospital identified needs. Suggest areas of research and assist nurses who are involved in developing research projects/protocols. Participates with the Institutional Review Board and Nursing Research Council.
