DEP; MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (RESIDENT POSITION); JOHN PENNEKAMP CORAL REEF STATE PARK; MONROE COUNTY; $2,048.29 PLUS $164.67 C.A.D. MONTHLY/$24,579.62 ANNUALLY.

DESCRIPTION

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department's Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.

*80% MAINTENANCE

Performs and/or oversees the repairs, maintenance and construction of park buildings; to include carpentry, brick, cement, block, plumbing, wiring, roofing, trim, framing, foundations, exterior and interior finish, painting, floors, doors and windows. Performs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to electric motors, generators, and compressors. Installs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to valves, sinks, wash bowls, sewers and other sanitary fixtures. Performs and/or oversees the maintenance and repairs to air conditioning and heating equipment. Operates all park maintenance equipment, including saws, drills, presses, torches, welders, grinders and all tools. Performs related work as required.

*15% ADMINISTRATION

Prepares vehicle reports, maintenance logs and maintenance schedules. Ability to follow DEP Directive 300 when purchasing materials and supplies.

5% Performs related work duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades; the principles and techniques of mechanical repair work; safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work; basic electrical systems and ability to maintain and repair electrical services in park facilities; basic plumbing skills and ability to maintain and repair plumbing services in park facilities; using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work. Ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions; read blueprints; install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment; take accurate measurements; follow instructions; maintain a valid driver's license; reside on park property; maintain and repair air conditioning and heating systems; establish and maintain a schedule for the upkeep of park facilities; write a scope of work for park facility repairs or upgrades; track park inventories and make supply orders; participate in the park's resource management program including the removal of exotic plants; perform physical labor in hot and humid South Florida climate with minimal supervision; determine work priorities, assign work and follow up with inspections. Skill in utilizing tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work; maintaining and operating all park vehicles to include: cars, tractors, boats, mowers, electric carts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND Abilities PREFERRED FOR THE POSITION

Ability to be dive certified.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Must reside on park property.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

EFFECTIVE 7/01/02 Florida Class E driver's license or an out-of-state class equivalent driver's license is required.
