Our Electronic Control Specialists maintain one of the most technologically advanced resort destinations in the world. Problem solving, superior technical skills, and possessing the ability to use good judgment under pressure are just some of the key attributes we are looking for in our Electronic Control Specialist


Electronic Control Specialists at Universal Orlando are responsible for:


  • Maintaining the DDC/BMS (direct digital control/building management) system site-wide.  Monitoring HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and Life Safety System performance.  Performing trend logs, and monitoring system to ensure proper DDC/BMS system operation.  Performing PM’s (preventive maintenance) to these systems as required per Maximo schedule. Assisting Tech I’s in more extensive control/programming modifications as well as daily site wide hot and cold calls.

  • Maintaining and operating all ADL (area development lighting) schedules site wide with energy management as a priority. Maintaining and operating all HVAC schedules site wide with energy management as a priority.  Coordinating with special events department to ensure lighting and HVAC schedules are in place to support event schedules.  Performing monthly site wide utility meter readings including electric, water, sewer and natural gas and monitor site wide electrical building usage using automated meter system and make recommendations for conservation projects.  Reporting energy usage discrepancies to building managers for corrective action.

  • Making recommendations for extensive control system program changes and upgrades.  Supporting miscellaneous UO Maintenance and Ride/show Department energy management needs.  Communicating with HVAC Technicians of any controls modifications or program changes as well as document all major program changes for future reference.  Maintaining daily shop logs with any information pertinent to DDC/BMS and life safety system status.

  • Supporting miscellaneous Maintenance and Ride & Show department energy management requirements as needed. 

  • Performing building fire alarm inspection and testing in accordance with NFPA requirements.

  • Understanding and actively participating in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 

  • Performing other duties as assigned.



To perform the role of a Electronic Control Specialist successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

  • High school degree or GED required.

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school preferred. 

  • 3-5 years electronic systems and control technician experience or equivalent OJT required.  Experience with computer operation required.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License/ required to operate company vehicles.

  • Certificate of completion from Electronics training course or advance DDC controls class.

  • If education and experience requirements are met candidate will have 12 months from date of hire to obtain certificates.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret spread sheets.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.     


The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the Electronic Control Specialist job.


While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:


  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) stand; walk; talk or hear; use hands to fingers; handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. 

  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).  


The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of the Electronic Control Specialist job.


While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to:


  • Regularly (2/3 of the time or more) be exposed to moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions.

  • Frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) be exposed to risk of electrical shock.

  • Occasionally (1/3 of the time or less) be exposed to wet or humid conditions, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
