Job Description

The Nurse Unit Based Educator (UBE) is responsible for collaborative assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and consultation of educational activities at the unit level in a 24/7 environment. The UBE develops, maintains, and enhances clinical, educational, and leadership skills of nursing and allied health personnel. The UBE acts as a resource to the healthcare team with regard to new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information. This individual facilitates unit-level orientation and education and tracks unit-based clinical competencies of the nursing staff on the unit. The Nurse Unit Based Educator must be a flexible individual proficient in delivering nursing care using the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The UBE provides leadership through activities such as committee work, community involvement, and participation in research. The American Nurses Association(ANA)Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, the Association for Nursing Professional Development(ANPD)and the American Nurses Credentialing Center Continuing Education/Accreditation (ANCC) guidelines provide a basis for care.

Basic Qualifications:

Baccalaureate or Master's degree in Nursing required. Master's degree preferred. Master's degree must be completed within six years of date of hire. Minimum three years of recent work experience as a registered nurse required.

Other Qualifications:

Previous experience in clinical area preferred. Demonstrated skill in education methods and adult learning principles preferred. Works flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, or weekends. Adapts to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer skills required.

License or Certification:

Current Arizona RN licensure required. Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Specialty certifications as required by unit guidelines.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every two weeks is approximately $2,931.00, based on a full-time position.
