TRANSPORT COORDINATOR - 12 HOUR - FULL TIME DAYS
GENERAL DUTIES:
The responsibility of the transporter dispatcher is the organization of work flow, for the transporters, with transportation of various patients to multiple departments. The Dispatcher uses computer software, communication devices and the telephone in carrying out their duties. Must have good telephone etiquette and be competent in basic computer skills. Must be able to problem solve, have organizational skills, multi-task and have the ability to reassess tasks in a fast paced environment. The transporter dispatcher also performs transport and transport related duties as needed.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
* Receives and prioritizes a high volume of transport requests
* Dispatches staff in an efficient and timely manner, as needed, based on departmental guidelines and procedures
* Uses bed management and computer software to ensure that discharge and patient transport requests are assigned and carried out within the time standards
* Monitors and ensures equitable distribution of workload for employees performing transports
* Utilizes problem solving skills and shows initiative to ensure that service goals are met
* Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians and other departments
* Understands the through-put of our patients as it relates to patient movement and discharges
* Assists in the orientation and training of new staff
* Answers telephone inquiries and requests, and communicates information to coordinate and/or facilitate the department's services
* Assists in the work flow of the department
* Acts as the command center for facility-wide support service dispatching
* Utilizes information received from healthcare staff and other departments to balance needs with available resources
* Logs and tracks requests in software systems to assure they are assigned and covered
* Evaluates quality and timeliness of work performed by staff
* May coordinate the maintenance of wireless communication devices, which may include, but is not limited to, spectra-link phones etc.
* Transport patients or equipment to various areas of the hospital as required
* Assures performance improvement and monitors performance of transport effectiveness and efficiency
* Other duties as assigned per One Call Center or Manager/Director
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum 1 year dispatch or healthcare transport experience
Current American Heart Association-Basic Life Support Certification
Excellent communication skills -- phone etiquette, written and verbal
Demonstrated ability to present self in positive and professional manner
