MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or (2) A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of experience handling items of evidentiary value, computerized management information systems, or operating multifunction automated system equipment. (3) College credit hours from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required experience.

DUTIES: The incumbent in this position is responsible for receiving, securing, distributing, and returning evidence submitted to the laboratory; maintains chain of custody records of incoming evidence; assigns computerized bar-code labels to evidence and case files as appropriate; performs evidence labeling, packaging, and inventorying (as needed); documents all evidence transactions as required; maintains all vault evidence in a neat and logical order; maintains a high level of quality in providing internal and external customer service; utilizes the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) by preparing data for input into the system (including written and verbal communication); assists in the maintenance of the LIMS information by taking appropriate action to correct any errors; assists with vault inventory audits at both on-site and off-site locations as needed; assists with training of other section members with regards to job duties and responsibilities; assists with the general housekeeping, cleaning, and organization of the section and evidence vault; correctly prepares and receives evidence via mail or common carrier service; and drives to other laboratories within the state to transfer evidence as needed. Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the procedures for packaging, handling, and preserving evidence. Knowledge of the LIMS and Prelog systems. Knowledge of the proper documentation required to substantiate the chain of custody and general accountability of evidence. Knowledge of FDLE's forensic quality documents related to evidence duties in addition to the Evidence Intake Training Manual and Evidence Submission Manual. Knowledge of the correct procedures for preparing and providing testimony in courts of law. Ability to give sworn testimony in courts.

SPECIAL NOTE: The duties for this position require (1) climbing up and down a flight of metal stairs, several times a day, while being able to lift items that weigh up to 30 pounds without assistance; (2) a valid Florida driver's license to drive an evidence van on day trips to various locations in Florida, such as Gainesville, Jacksonville, and Tampa; and (3) work hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
