Since 1983, Brynn Marr Hospital has specialized in quality behavioral health services for children, adolescents, adults and senior adults through a comprehensive, integrated system of inpatient treatment and residential programs. Our purpose is to offer caring, effective behavioral health services for children, adolescents, adults and senior adults throughout North Carolina who suffer from mental illness, chemical dependency or developmental disability.

Your normal schedule will be 4 hours per day 12:30pm - 4:30pm or 1:00pm - 5:00pm Monday through Friday. (20 hours per week)

Position Summary

Assist Teachers in preparation and administration of curriculum and lesson plans for patients admitted to the residential program in classroom settings. Assist in provision of professional level instruction under general direction and guidance of licensed Teacher. Helps Teachers maintain efficient and effective department operation and compliance with all state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Intervene when necessary to redirect patient behavior and/or respond to codes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists Teachers to prepare and administer individual education plan for assigned students based on his/her developmental abilities.

Assists with small group and 1:1 instruction based on the needs of individual students with concerns for interests, disabilities, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.

Assists students in becoming aware of roles as integral members of a group.

Assists Teachers with arrangement, appearance, deacutecor and learning environment of the classroom.

Create and maintain a positive learning environment.

Attends departmental and program staff meetings and/or professional meetings as required.

Assists Teachers in ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of students.

Helps Teachers maintain attendance records for class period.

Under direction and supervision of Teachers, maintains student files.

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.

Provide clerical support to Teachers.

Models Service Excellence standards.

Other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Education: Associates Degree or 48 semester hours of higher education completion required. Bachelor's degree in elementary or secondary education preferred.

2. Experience: Prior experience in teaching, especially in a treatment setting preferred. Mental Health Tech experience preferred.

3. License/Certification: N/A

4. Physical Requirements: Extensive standing. Moderate sitting. Must be able to lift over twenty (20) pounds.

Ability to provide age and/or developmentally appropriate interventions according to behavior management model.
