POSITION PURPOSE:
The Field Technician is responsible for the tasks associated with the design, installation, upgrade and repair of home security systems. Field Technicians will use communication, technical knowledge, problem solving and sales skills to deliver the highest level of customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Prepares for installations, upgrades, repairs and disconnects by reviewing work orders, gathering equipment, supplies and tools and coordinating schedules with customers by pre-calling customers to verify appointments and confirm customer receipt of equipment.
  2. Plans installations by evaluating location, locating access and laying-out equipment and wiring plan.
  3. Establishes security systems by installing equipment, running and pulling cable, programming and calibrating equipment while adhering to codes, regulations and standards.
  4. Conducts customer premise survey, makes recommendations on equipment placement, up-sells for complete protection, processes work order modifications and manages schedule impacts.

  1. Ensures that “World Class” customer service is provided to promote superior customer satisfaction by actively participating in individual and team efforts to support customer satisfaction.

  1. Maintains and improves service and rapport with customers through listening to their descriptions of problems, answering questions and resolving issues through diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing and/or upgrading components, and providing customer education regarding proper system usage and care.

  1. Verifies security systems for correct functionality and optimal performance by testing equipment and connections and identifying and correcting any issues.

  1. Maintains accurate records associated with each work order (installations, service, repairs, etc.) in a timely manner in order to ensure all details of the work are recorded for entry in the customer’s account once the work is checked in and completed.

  1. Maintains a safe work environment by following safe practices and adhering to safety policies.
  1. Properly operates, maintains and reports issues to assigned company property including, but not limited to, company vehicle, IPads, handhelds, installation tools, equipment, etc.
  1. Drives and operates company vehicles safely in accordance with established policies, courteously and defensively and ensures that maintenance and care is performed appropriately. Reports the need for vehicle repair or service when required and/or prescribed.
  1. Reports any accidents, losses, injuries or property damage to supervisor and customer based on established policies.
  1. Ensures adequate supply levels by inventorying stock, placing and verifying orders.
  1. Updates and improves job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications, and up-training.
  1. Obtain permits when required.
  1. Enhances the organization’s reputation through personal accountability for accomplishing new and different requests and always striving to add value.
  1. Applies personal ethics, honesty, initiative, flexibility and responsibility in the performance of work assignments.
  1. Accurately reports all time worked and notifies management or human resources of any questions, issues or concerns in this regard.
  1. Self-monitors performance through scorecard reports.
  1. Maintains punctual, regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER DUTIES:
1. Reads and interprets safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Refers to schematics, manuals and manufacturer’s instructions as needed.

2. Manages equipment issues with warehouse staff, including administrative processes for vehicle inventory, ensuring appropriate documentation.

3. Cleans, maintains and stocks vehicle and equipment in order to be prepared to perform essential duties.
4. Mentors new employees as needed.

5. Attends meetings for technicians as required.
6. Cross trains on additional services to meet customer demand.
7. Positively represents MasTec Advanced Technologies and our customer, AT&T Digital Life, with our customers with consistent professionalism, showing ID and being properly dressed in uniform.

8. Works 6-day workweeks as requested to meet business needs.
9. Performs other duties as assigned in order to achieve company goals and objectives.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Solid ability to perform installation of concealed devices and wiring.
  • Solid ability using power tools and knowledge of all tools required to perform duties of job.
  • Solid ability to provide customer service and support and be the face of MasTec Advanced Technologies and our customer, AT&T Digital Life, and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Solid ability to follow managerial direction; understand and follow instructions and established routines; multi-task; and analyze and solve problems.
  • Solid organizational, planning and prioritization skills; attention to detail; productive without compromising quality.
  • Solid ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines while managing external customer expectations and resetting accordingly.

  • Solid knowledge of equipment application, compatibility, mounting techniques and testing.
  • Solid computer skills; strong networking experience preferred in setting up and integrating new and existing wired/wireless networks.
  • Solid ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Solid ability to be proactive in gathering information and answering inquiries with limited direction and seeking assistance as needed.
  • Solid ability to work independently.
  • Solid IPAD skills and basic web-browser knowledge.

  • Basic experience selling equipment and service upgrades.

  • Basic understanding of residential structures and designs.

  • Basic understanding of local and national codes.


Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school training is a plus.
  • Licensed per state and local requirements for Security/Burglar Alarm and Fire Alarm (as required).

Experience
Minimum of one (1) year performing residential security & alarm installation and service is highly preferred.

Candidates with a combination of the following qualifications/experience may be considered:
  • Completed a technical school program;
  • Received certification in security/surveillance
  • Experience as an electrician’s helper or equivalent
  • 3+ years of residential construction experience
  • 1+ year of experience installing TV/phone/internet
