About this job
Job Description:
This company makes circuit boards, they will do more custom work for clients with an average production run of about 75 boards. You will be working on 2nd shift from 3pm-11pm troubleshooting and diagnosing nonfunctioning circuit boards.
The 2 test operators will set up the fixtures and run boards through them. If the board doesn't work the technician steps in to find out why it's not working. You will use a variety of tools including micrometers and oscilliscopes, schematics (a picture of what components and wires the board should have) and an In Circuit Test machine (a machine that makes sure the board has all the necessary components) to find out why the board isn't working and work to make it functional again.
Work Environment:
There are 25 people on 2nd shift with a second shift supervisor who is very proud of the team work and cohesiveness they have on second shift. It is a laid back environment with business casual dress attire (jeans and a polo for the test technician). The typical hours of second shift are 3:45pm - 11:45pm, but the Test Technician works 3pm-11pm because they need overlap with 1st shift so they know where they are with projects and timelines and what is expected of them during 2nd shift.
On 2nd shift the Test Technician works very closely with 2 experienced test operators in a lab setting. They set up their test benches and fixtures. In most cases the operators are able to set up their own fixtures, but for some the more complicated test fixtures the Test Technician will need to help. 75% of the time they troubleshoot the boards that the operators find don't work in the fixtures, but in some cases when they are behind they will be helping the operators actually test the boards.
Qualifications:
Must:
-Associates degree in an electrical engineering related field (electronics engineering, electronics engineering technology, electrical technology, electrical engineering)
-1+ years troubleshooting circuit boards (the test operator finds that the board isn't working in the specific test fixture so you have to find where the problem is. It could be the test fixture so you run a board that you know works or it could be the board so you have to read the schematic (electrical drawing of how the board should look) and make sure everything is in place and run through a series of tests to find out why the board isn't working).
-Experience using oscilloscopes and multimeters which are measuring tools specific to electronics testing
-Ability to read a schematic (an electrical drawing of how a circuit board should look and where the components and wiring should be placed).
-Leadership Skills - this is 2nd shift and there is a supervisor but they aren't a test technician. There is only 1 Test Tech and 2 Test Operators on 2nd shift so need to be able to work independently and problem solve with little to no help from the test supervisor and experienced technicians.
Plus:
-3+ years circuit board analysis - diagnosing issues when boards won't work at circuit board level meaning you can physically touch the board to help diagnose problems not just the drawing of the board.
-Experience with ICT (In Circuit Test). They have a very nice machine that checks the components on the board to make sure they are all there. The machine is very useful when a board isn't working because you know you have all the pieces necessary. An individual can be trained on how to utilize this machine if they don't have prior experience.
