About this job

The purpose of this job is to lead the national strategic training and development team supporting UHN staff and leadership.  The leader of this team is responsible for strategically enabling the diverse roles and talent across UHN through alignment of training with key business strategies and business operations. The leader will work directly with the UHN ELT members to define training and development needs for the over 2,100 resources to drive delivery of our business plans and priorities.  This will include revamping our current training program to create UHN University including both a broad base of core courses and targeted senior level courses to enable enhanced knowledge and performance.  This position reports to the National VP – Provider Experience and Network Services
 
Primary Responsibilities:

Develops a comprehensive training and organizational development program that is tailored to the unique network business environment and business requirements (e.g., strategy changes, emerging business needs)
Collaborates with internal/external business partners and SMEs to identify business goals and performance gaps as well as areas of strategic opportunities (e.g., leadership, Human Capital, external provider customers, Advisory Councils, external surveys and vital signs)
Assess current training process and learner readiness to define a transformational curriculum and development plan
Bring both development expertise and other skills to bear to help identify additional non-training solutions to address business needs/performance gaps, where appropriate (e.g., organization design, leadership development, change management, team dynamics)
Work across UHN and the enterprise to identify and select training methodologies and communicate to stakeholders (e.g., leadership, training staff, business partners), in order to drive adoption and leverage best practices from across the organization
Leverage all relevant training/development approaches (e.g., learning from experience, learning from others, learning from education)
Interact extensively with development teams from across the enterprise including shared services (Operations and Clinical), sales, Optum  and other line of business leaders to understand needs and capabilities to both develop knowledge in UHN and share UnitedHealthcare Network information with their teams

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

BS / BA degree in business, training, organizational design or related field
10+ years of progressively more responsible training and development experience with a strong preference for managed care and/or network functional area experience
Current proficiency with Training Technology
Demonstrated training and development expertise that includes strong leadership, communication, training and organizational development skills
5 or more years of experience in a training leadership role experience including managing a robust and comprehensive training and development portfolio
Highly developed and demonstrated strategic planning expertise
Experience working with talent and development
Budget management including the ability to analyze needs, develop strategic business plans, and manage to budget and timely delivery
Working knowledge of the established learning processes and mechanisms with the ability to target the right solutions and the right opportunities
Experience in managing training value through performance and impact measurement including frequent executive status reports to key leaders
PC literacy and proficiency in spreadsheet and PowerPoint software
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to interact with senior leaders to drive decisions and support of training initiatives
Strong Project Management skills
