About this job

My client is a well established general contractor located in Chicago, IL. Formed in the early 90's, they specialize in corporate interiors, building renovations and new construciton for healthcare, retail, industrial and education projects. They are looking to hire an experienced Construction Engineer as a permanent addition to their team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or Project Management field required.

At least 3-5 years related work experience and knowledge of Construction/Engineering processes and disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, etc.

Skill and Competency Requirements
Skill requirements include knowledge of construction terminology and building standards

Competency in reading and interpreting blueprints, as well as understanding construction diagrams

Knowledge and skills in use of spreadsheets, database, word processing, and selected jobspecific
software, including Microsoft Project, Primavera and Suretrak.

Ability to keep clear and accurate records and reports

Ability to rapidly input data and retrieve records and information

Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications

Time management and organizational skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Good communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preconstruction
Attend pre-bid meetings for projects and participate in facility investigations

Prepare subcontractor scopes of work and solicit bids

Assist with proposal preparation

Work with Project Manager to ensure proper allocation of resources and to ensure no gaps between contract documents and subcontracts

Work with A/E firms (as needed), to ensure design appropriate to construction scope, including design and constructability reviews

Develop/assist with project baseline schedule

Coordinate product selection with Project Manager, Owner, Architect and subcontractor in timely fashion so as not to disrupt project schedule

Construction
Analyze and resolve field construction issues

Prepare, review, and distribute RFIs; maintain RFI Log

Maintain job files and as-builts

Develop and maintain schedule with Superintendent input

Determine and monitor schedule requirements for projects with Project Manager/Superintendent to properly notify subcontractors of upcoming work obligations and
notify them of any changes in scope or resources required

Work with Project Manager/ Superintendent to create 3-week look ahead schedulesto best coordinate self-performing and subcontractor efforts

Prepare and review site specific safety plans with Project Management and Safety Officer, and subcontractors

Coordinate and schedule any required inspections with Owner, Architect or governing bodies

Initiate and coordinate field activities required through meetings, phone calls or written documentation

Maintain thorough understanding of contract documents and subcontracts

Prepare meeting minutes for job meetings

Complete required tasks daily: Timecards, Purchase Orders, Work Orders, Daily Logs and collection of Subcontractor Daily Job Reports

Maintain records of weekly project photos

Coordinate review of shop drawings and submittals; Track submittals for timely review and ensure information is obtained prior to installation. Coordinate project documents and project submittals to work installed in the field

Determine, coordinate and monitor material needs and deliveries to various jobsites

Coordinate materials storage and delivery to project site, including, where necessary, security procedures, vertical building schedules, and dock procedures

Inspect/verify material deliveries

Manage project closeout and obtain all warranties/O&M documentation required for final acceptance

Maintain punch list with Superintendent
