Transportation Planner

# Description


*_JOB SUMMARY_*

The Transportation Planner is involved in multiple aspects of transportation planning: Shipment analysis and mode/carrier selection, multi stop shipments, expedited shipments, vendor and carrier relations and cross-functional partnerships with preferred carrier base, Vendors, Distribution Operations and Planning and Allocation.

*_KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES_*
* Analyze all collect inbound shipments to determine the most optimal routing of freight to achieve the desired service levels while at the same time minimizing the transportation expense (The Transportation Planner directly affects $75 million of a $135 million budget (TL, LTL, Rail, and IMC)).
* Analyze carrier trends and identify service related issues. Work in conjunction with Carrier Administration to develop action plans to correct the service issues. Collaborate with Carrier Administration to develop pick up and delivery parings that are both desirable for carriers and in accordance with service and financial goals.
* Analyze vendor trends and identify potential issues that may provide opportunities for reducing transportation related expenses and/or improve service levels.
* Work collectively with other functional groups to include the Transportation, DC Operations, P&A, and vendor partnership
* Work on individualized projects to support Transportation initiatives.



# Qualifications


*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:*
o Strong analytical and problem solving skills, to include intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and Access (desirable)
o Planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritized multiple tasks and projects
o Ability to effectively communicate and interact in a team environment
o Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited direction
o Manugistics or other TMS experience a plus
