Job Overview:

Macy's / Macys.com currently seeks an experienced executive with strong management, team-building, marketing, site, consumer and business analytics experience. This position is ideal for a seasoned executive looking to work with experienced online marketing, analytics, site management, merchant, product management and finance professionals in a high-performance, results driven environment.

The Vice President, Marketing Analytics is responsible for guiding business strategy, tactical execution and new opportunity identification through actionable insights, deep analytics and a robust suite of reporting solutions. Overseeing marketing effectiveness analytics, website analytics, consumer insights, and business analytics, the VP is charged with driving day to day productivity in execution as well as aligning the teams around broader opportunities and strategies through the compelling and clear delivery of analysis and insights. Through sophisticated bottoms up planning across marketing tactics, device usage, family of business sales mix and daily event marketing calendar the VP Marketing Analytics will identify risks and opportunities, guide execution and support the predictable delivery of business results. The right candidate will thrive in a fast paced and rapidly evolving environment, work to drive innovation and continuous improvement for efficiency and sustainable sales growth.

Essential Functions:

Analytics and Insights
  • Foster a customer centric orientation in the framing of performance, opportunities and risks.
  • Proactively provide analysis and insights across areas of analytic responsibility to business owners and senior leadership.
  • Be able to not only answer how is business but be able to answer why the business is performing as it is across lenses of marketing, event calendar, promotion and customer.
  • Consistently apply a Macy's Inc. omni-channel lens to analysis and insights.
  • Lead analytic solutions and analysis of cross channel, cross device, multi touch consumer behavior. Drive the integration of this analysis and insights into functional marketing operational and optimization approaches.
  • Proactively guide customer strategies for acquisition, retention and engagement across areas of marketing, product management, and planning and site management.
  • Enforce consistent understanding and usage of analytic data. Act as the keeper of data quality, working to drive consistent, robust processes for instrumentation and analytic data capture.
  • Support organization with business intelligence tools and reporting across site usage, marketing tactic execution and performance, business sales and operating performance and customer activity.
  • Apply understanding of the company's business strategies, competitive environment and industry trends to educate and guide both strategic and tactical decisions with guidance framed by impact of recommendations on various departments.


Marketing Analytics and Performance
  • Guide the organization in establishing and delivering on tactic and customer goals and objectives. Through leadership, collaboration, and education drive Macy's wide customer engagement and sales.
  • Balance merchandise / category level business objectives with customer and efficiency objectives.
  • Support optimization and learning through ongoing and consistently integrated experimentation / testing.
  • Drive alignment and consistency in marketing and media effectiveness approaches across Macy's Inc. Lead efforts to integrate sophisticated de-averaged media mix modeling to guide investments, execution and determine true increment of each tactic.
  • Maximize profitability and sales growth through program enhancements, intelligent analytics (incl. multi touch attribution and cross channel behavior / influence) and closed loop tactical optimization / automation.


Performance Planning/Analytics
  • Enforce strategic focus for sustainable sales and profitability growth through detailed and intelligent planning across customer, marketing tactic, device, family of business, day and promotion. Leverage a data driven and precise planning process to deliver predictable results. Establish and foster competency in scenario simulation to identify both incremental opportunities as well as areas of risk and exposure.
  • Lead Customer Analytics group to establish customer interaction metric baselines and to evaluate the success of changes made to the customer experience. Establish customer engagement and activity objectives and support efforts to achieve through marketing tactics, site experience and execution.


Leadership / Team Management
  • Hire, develop and retain a high performing team of 20+ individuals.
  • Foster and inspire a culture of innovation, collaboration, intense curiosity and a drive to be the best.
  • Balance work and deliverable demands (reactive) with a focus on proactive analysis. Put effort and resources on highest impact topics. Open up bandwidth by regularly identifying what not to do.
  • Provide team with a clear sense of objective, ownership and accountability and a solid understanding of how what they do fits into the broader strategy of Macy's.
  • Ensure processes and organizational structure meet evolving needs and objectives.
  • Develop/mentor team and monitor project progress and work-flow to assure achievement of delivery commitments. Provide guidance to successfully work across departments.
  • Assist leadership in enabling and implementing analytics team culture and processes which are proactive and creates an environment which values creative, out of the box thinking to add value to the business as well as create new venues of opportunity.
  • Identify and partner with new and emerging third parties to enable leading, best of breed analytic capabilities. Test new approaches and innovate.


Qualifications:
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Economics, Marketing, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Information Technologies, Econometrics or related quantitative fields.
  • 8+ years' experience working in an analytic or quantitative field, preferably in the retail / e-tail marketing space.
  • Strong leadership skills with a cross-platform mentality and approach. Ability to motivate, influence, collaborates and work in partnership within team as well as across the organization.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing managers, senior staff and high performance teams.
  • Proven competence in delivering in parallel across multiple projects and ability to prioritize resource allocation based on business needs and ROI, meet tight deadlines, and be decisive under pressure.
  • Ability to take high level objectives and leverage data and analytics to draw out insights carried through to execution / optimization.
  • Broad working knowledge of retail, ecommerce, interactive marketing, customer segmentation methodology, lifecycle methodologies, engagement analysis and interactive marketing solutions is a must.
  • Understanding of the objectives and success metrics across Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, Site Management, Finance and Planning teams and ability to apply that knowledge to analysis and recommendations (to frame application).
  • Experience with large data sets, data visualization and advanced analytical tools. Strong understanding of practices and approaches to analytic data acquisition, management and use.


Communication Skills
  • Persuasive and consumable presentation of analytic results and recommendations. Ability to communicate complex concepts and share insights in a consumable audience aware fashion..


Reasoning Ability:
  • Proven ability to leverage data and quantitative analysis to deliver actionable insights, guide strategic decisions and directly drive business results. Consistently supports recommendations with clear business case that demonstrates bottom and or top line value.
  • Self-driven, innovative and a strategic thinker with a sharp attention to detail and a solution orientation.
