The Research Nurse / Nurse Practitioner Core Leader will be responsible for directing the care of patients enrolled in clinical trials within the Columbia University Medical Center's Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center Clinical Protocol and Data Management Office. Specific responsibilities will be in the context of guidelines described for each protocol and will include: identifying and contacting prospective study participants; reviewing protocols with patients and obtaining informed consent; performing (or arranging for) required evaluations; dispensing study medications to randomized patients; providing treatment education; providing follow-up with patients to ensure that study procedures are being followed and adherence is maximized; completing case report forms; filing serious adverse event reports. In addition to these specific responsibilities of a Research Nurse/Nurse Practitioner the Core Leader will: serve as a clinical resource to other members of the research team; have a comprehensive understanding of clinical trials and the ability to access appropriate resources/ information as needed; takes a primary role in the orientation and continued educational needs of RN/NPs; designs/creates learning experiences for all staff members; participates in the development of Standard Operating Procedures; assists in performance appraisals. The Research Nurse / Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with all members of the research team in developing and implementing a quality management plan. He or she will attend staff meetings and perform other duties, as assigned.

Hours:

9.75 hour shift, flexed schedule (Monday ? Friday), pending successful completion of orientation requirements and departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

BSN plus four years of related experience required (note: Master's Degree required for NP). NYS RN LICENSE REQUIRED (NP license and board certification if applying as Nurse Practitioner). Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Conflict of Interest (COI) required upon hire. Clinical research experience and oncology nursing experience required. OCN certification; CCRP/CCRC certification ; 2 years of HICCC CPDM or Cancer Center experience preferred.
