Position Summary:

This is an Operations position responsible for directing and coordinating activities of outbound warehouse workers engaged in selecting, loading, stacking, checking and shipping food service and food related products by performing the following duties (below) personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Responsibilities:

Essential Skills and Knowledge

Considerable knowledge of shipping practices and procedures; product lines (and their dimension) sold by SYSCO; inventory practices; management principles including developing objectives, projecting and managing under a budget, evaluating department operation, and supervising and motivating employees; necessary inter-department communication related to operational and safety activities. Ability to plan and organize your own and your staff's work activities; Ability to analyze and disseminate forms and numerical data; perform complex mathematical calculation; manage work time efficiently; follow procedures and policies; identify and solve problems; write clearly and concisely. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Essential Duties : (essential functions are in bold)

General Management includes the following:

Responsible for all of the nightshift operations. Interacts with Human Resources Department on developing new policies to help nightshift operate better as a whole. Plans and monitors ways to reduce shrink in our night operations to help stay under plan. Operations Management includes the following:

Develops and promotes goals and objectives by management and supervision of warehouse activities and personnel. Develops personnel for each job duty. Helps implement programs with Risk Manager or Safety Professional Maintains open line of communication with Slot Coordinator and SWMS Coordinator for maximum utilization of slots and cube as well as optimum travel time for picks and puts. Develops and maintains communication with other departments to enhance the night warehouse's overall organization and efficiency. Analyzes, identifies and proposes solutions of problems with the night warehouse operation. Inspects warehouse facilities and equipment and recommends changes in allocation of space and procedures. Serves as warehouse spokesperson in cases of legal proceedings, inquiry, feedback or requests for special information in order to facilities the accurate and precise flow of information. Sets goals for night operations to ensure that profit plan goals are met and maintained on a consistent basis. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow. Issues written and oral instructions. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Informs Operations VP and Warehouse Director when equipment is needed. Answers inquire on types of service offered, rates, schedules, and areas serviced. Oversees investigation of customer complaints involving such matters as damaged items mis-picks, overcharges and shipment delays and makes necessary adjustment. Warehouse Function Management includes the following:

Oversees order selection and loading to ensure product quality and accuracy for customer satisfaction and efficient warehouse operation. Ensures that loading activities and monitored appropriately by warehouse management staff, so that customers desiring special loading (i.e. on pallets and wrapped with shrink wrap) have their orders delivered as requested. Monitors stocking and replenishment by reviewing product waste figures to ensure that proper products rotation is occurring. Ensures that warehouse management staff are processing and returning to data processing, in a timely manner, all check off sheets so that accurate information is invoiced to the customer. Monitors delivery problems to ensure that loading schedule requirements, will calls and high priority deliveries are being met by warehouse loading personnel. Monitors for efficiency product receiving by reviewing and verifying product purchase orders to ensure accurate receiving of merchandise. Reviews and evaluates the cause of miss-shipments to ensure that product is being counted and entered correctly on the purchase order. Personnel Management includes the following:

Assesses needs to determine training and development of staff; provides appropriate training and development to staff as needed in conjunction with the Manager of Risk Management or other personnel. Review employee performance evaluation completed by operations supervisors, as required, to ensure the quality and fairness of the evaluation to the appropriate destination. Conducts formal employee performance evaluations for the purpose of relating expectations to the operations staff and providing evaluation documentation. Provides feedback, continuously, on the performance of associates by monitoring activities and reports for the purpose of relating expectations to the staff and identifying poor performance levels through regular staff meetings. Completes personnel records and forms as required; assists in human resources actions as requested; performs other duties assigned. Safety and Security Management includes the following:

Helps ensure that the warehouse is kept in a condition consistent with the safety standards set by SYSCO to reduce or eliminate related injuries and damage/loss of product and equipment. Also, ensures employees are trained and comply with all SYSCO policies concerning safety and security of operational activities in an effort to reduce accidents and product loss. Ensures that staff is trained in the safe operation of automated equipment and the proper conduct of duties in an effort to reduce accidents and damage to products. Monitors product loss and profit reduction due to shrink, along with injury levels and equipment/product damage levels, to ensure that warehouse management staff is enforcing policies concerning safety.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements :

High School diploma or equivalent; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Pallet Jack and Forklift Certification from Sysco Hampton Roads. Preferred Requirements :

High-volume food distribution experience. Automated warehouse management systems experience. Competencies :
